Automatic transmssion questions
Automatic transmssion questions
Hi,
Since I have never driven an automatic with shift capabilities I had a few questions.
First since it is not an SMG transmission what happens when I stop at a light from 4Th gear? Do I have to do anything when I stop? Will the engine automatically go to 1st gear when you are less than 5 mph? I guess If I was slowing down to stop in 4Th and the light changed to green, would I tap the left paddle twice to downshift to second gear?
Would someone be kind enough to walk me through a drive with the paddle shifters.
Also, since SMG stands for sequential manual transmission, do I treat it like a motorcycle engine? When I would ride my bike from 4Th gear and have to stop at a light I would have to start downshifting to either get to 1st gear or neutral. Is this what SMG drivers have to do?
Thanks for the help.

With manumatics, you simply break, and the car will appropriate downshift to the most ideal gear. So yes, if you're slow enough, it will downshift to even 1st gear. The paddle shifters are exactly what you think they are. You want to upshift, you click the right paddle towards you, and you never have to lift your foot off the throttle. When you downshift with the left paddle, the car will match the RPMs so that you do get that jolt, which is a result of the RPMs skyrocketing.
Manumatics are just like video games. Can't be simpler.

Sometimes my fingers have minds of their own.And once I get my G35, I'm sure my feet will have minds of their own, too.
