The dealer told me there was a VERY easy way to hack it. He wouldn't tell me specifics, but told me just to walk into Car Toys and they would have everything you need. Said it was cheap and easy - no re-wiring or changing hardware or anything like that.

On my previous G35, I had the navi hack and the passengers were able to play PS2, watch movies etc, with no problem. I guess it's maturity and responsibility that takes place in that kind of situation, not to look @ the screen while driving. So I wouldnt have a problem doing it again in the 07 G. Plus if you have the navigation, you do take your eyes off of the road(at some point) to touch a buttom on the screen or use the control that is mounted in front of the screen.

Again, this is just me but I disagree with your comments above. If you are playing a movie on the LCD of the G, the natural tendancy would be to glance frequently at the movie since it is just a quick shift of your eyes. If your wife watches movies on portable DVD player, she can sit it on her lap where it is not distracting to you.

Overall, I just think it's a bad idea to have movies playing on the LCD screen while in motion. Infiniti designed it this way for a reason.

Ok so tell me what is the difference between glancing over to look at something on the navigation, fuel economy, etc vs glancing over @ the LCD screen while a movie is playing? Mind you the glancing over on both situations are the same allotted time. Plus, like I mentioned earlier its the discretion of the driver, in my case, Im responsible enough not to look @ a movie on the screen and stay there stuck for 20 seconds or more.

This is how I would control myself:

1) If I'm the only one in the car, I won't watch anything.
2) If I have a passenger(s) who wants to watch something via RCA, I'll only plug in the audio and force my passenger(s) to watch it on the original source (let's hope it's not a dinky Video iPod!).
3) If I can't help myself, I'll pull offer, turn off the car, and have a viewing party until the show's over.

I completely agree. I neglected to mention that. I wouldnt watch anything if Im alone, for what? Since I dont look @ it anyway when there is something actually playing on the screen.

IMO, there is a BIG difference between the two.....but that is just ME. If you want to have a movie playing on the LCD, go right ahead.....all the power to you.

Forget movies. I just want to view the ipod screen on the LCD. I think it would be actually safer than trying to navigate while looking down at a smaller ipod screen.

Would you need the ipod video to do this, or could you get the screen of say, an Ipod nano to come up on the video screen through the 16-bit connector?

When you try to watch a movie the stewardess wants the windowshades drawn and the popcorn holders are so small that altogether it is just not worth the effort.

I don't have an iPod video, I still have a stupid 60GB photo . In my experience a movie or video will show up on the external screen, but all menus are only displayed on the iPod's screen. I used to work at Future Shop when the iPod video was released and I was never all that impressed. I think I might buy an 160GB Archos 504 multimedia player next, its a little bigger but it has a 4.3" screen for when I'm not using it while parked in my car. I think it can also play divx directly!

If this was possible it would prevent way more wrecks than playing movies while driving would cause.

Looking straight down at a tiny screen while scolling through songs is super dangerous while driving. If you could use the nav screen that would be so much safer.

I hooked up my 8mm video camera to it today and was watching my sons HS grad. Wasn't too bad, the picture was good and the sound was really good.
Kind of neat to be able to sit and watch a movie while waiting for someone.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think it is a good idea to stare, looking for carnage at emergency and wrecked vehicles on the side of the road while driving. Basically by having video playback disabled on the vehicle Infiniti is telling us that we are bad drivers.

I don't rubberneck, ever. My eyes don't wander off and stare at the pretty birds while driving either, and they certainly don't gawk at my stereo on the dashboard, nor would they with a video playing either.

Sorry for the attitude, just trying to make a point, but I am getting a little annoyed with the desensitization going on. Seat belt warnings were already stupid enough, now stuff like this.

I'll be the first to hack the whole system once it becomes available, if I get the car. I frankly wish I could get the car with as basic a dashboard as possible, but unfortunately Infiniti decided top not give consumers a choice - we have to have a huge LCD screen in the middle of our dashboards. Just think for a moment how much it will cost to replace this screen when out of warranty?

I don't want the screen. I like good old fashioned *****, but since I am forced to have one if I get the car, let it work when *I* choose..
