Remote start

It is getting cold soon.. Has anyone thought about gettting a remote start for their G? Would it even work without a key left in the car?

Also, are there competitors of the G that include this option?

BMW has this as a factory-installed option across-the-board - there are others that have this as well. Not sure about the IS350, for other Lexus models have Remote Start but I'm not sure about the availability on the IS.

You can keep the key in your pocket and lock the doors and the engine will remain running. As for a remote start, I am way too cheap to give up a $300 key for the bypass module.

Got my remote start (valet) installed last week along with shock and proximity sensors wired to the factory "alarm". Cost me around $550 altogether including installation. Works sweet. 2 clicks on the lock button on the remote starts the car. They wired it to monitor the power locks. This means that if I push the central locking button from within the car twice I get the equivalent of push button start. Still have to turn the ignition switch all the way around though otherwise stepping on the brakes before doing so cuts the engine (security feature). Only downside is you need to give up your valet key as it is used as authentication for the ignition. Neat gadget though. Love showing it off to work colleages and friends.

Does the 07 G come with a valet key? I don't want to give up an intelligent key.

I didn't get one.

Instruction manual says to take the mechanical key off and hand the intelligent key to the valet. This way they can't get into your glove or trunk.

That brings up another question, the keyring loop is on the mechanical key. Valets always put a tag on there and hang it, what are they going to do tape the tag to my key??

I thought you were supposed to give the valet key to the valet. Otherwise why is it called a valet key?

There's no valet key because, think about it, with a push-button engine start, how would you start the car with just a key?

Did anyone get one of those credit card-like key-inside-a-card thingy?

There is a valet key I got one at least. It a key that will open the doors and start the car, but it will not open the trunk or the glove compartment.

As for the credit card key thing, that one will just open doors, but won't start the car.

There's no valet key for the new sedan because you don't use a key to start the car. You use the key FOB to start the car. If your key fob is dead, you insert it into the slot to the left of the steering column.

Well I have a 2006 coupe so I guess I am different. So for the new sedans the fob doesn't have a pull out key? You just insert the whole thing somewhere?
