I just recently purchased a my 07 sedan and I'm surprised how much power and how well it handles. I just got rid of a 2005 AMG C55 and my new G has similar excelleration and better handling for almost half the price I paid for the AMG and 10x the electronic goodies

Good comments coming from a former benz owner and an AMG owner to boot! I'm glad the G is putting a Originally Posted by G35string

on your face. Btw, did your old C55 have the same SOHC 5.5L V8 found in the SLK55? Take care of you new baby and post some pics if you can.Yep! Same engine as the SLK55. In comparision the G from the get go is similar off the line. But the AMG had big torque and more 70 more horses. The engine note was awesome also, but my new G is no slouch and the handling is tighter and with more confidence than the AMG! I simply can't believe it...Nissan did a really good job in this car.

Im glad that I saw your post...a used C55 AMG was one of the cars I was cross-shopping the G with. Besides the obvious benefit+less hassle of a new car vs. a used one, I'm happy to see that a former C55AMG owner is satisfied, nay, impressed by
the GEDIT: on the highway, the C55 would kill the G right?

Yeah, I love the sound of AMG engines in general. A neighbor down the street bought a CLS55 as soon as it came out. The 5.5L Kompressor is just downright mean when you punch it. Needless to say there was a little bit of jealously, lol. Originally Posted by G35string

Now it has the 6.3L as if it need more displacement. Anyway, getting back on topic...Registered User
The C55 is that slow? That's quite a disappointment to hear, I always imagined flooring that car would be really fun.
The best mag time posted for the C55 was 4.9 0-60. The G is not to far behind. Don't get me wrong guys the AMG is faster than the G35. But I had to get rid of it cause I knew a C63 was coming next year. It's like anything you start getting immune to the power. The G just has so much to offer for the price. I test drove the TL-S before the G and the handling wasn't even close.

The 6.2 is an AMG-only engine with no supercharger. Winds much higher than the 5.4SC, but not nearly as much torque down low. At least this is what the specs tell me. Haven't driven either one. Originally Posted by N50

I also suspect that the 6.2 will sound even better.
The C55 had the 5.4 without the supercharger, good for 362 horsepower at 5750 rpm. Not exactly what you'd expect from a high-performance 5.4, clearly relying mostly on displacement. The new MB V8s are much stronger and more refined.

I previously had an Acura and loved it, however, with the new G I don't see the TL selling well. The TL does not seem to be competetive in its price range.Originally Posted by G35string

I am not one who likes to compare cars all the time, because there is no perfect car and what's good for one person will not be good for another. However, its hard to ignore that the TL and G are as close to direct competetors as it gets in the market(price and country of origin) and the TL just is NO competetion for the new G, acura really better have something up their sleeve in the near future. In fact, I think its more fair to compair the RL and the G and the G still comes out ahead - IMO.
I test drove the Acura TL-S before I bought the G. It felt like my accord commuter car. I picked the G because it handled similar to my buddy's 350z which I thought was outstanding!
G (enie) FUNK ERA
Congrats!
Looking at your signature, I must ask: How come you didn't go with the Sport package? - or did you go with the 6MT?
The reason I'm asking is that you mentioned the great handling of the car. If that's the case then you should drive the sport/6MT models...

Acura TL-S
BMW 335i
BMW 328
Infiniti G35 Sedan
Audi A4
Lexus IS350
MB C350 Sport
Predictably, the 335i will probably finish first. But it will be interesting to see what they will say in the article.

The upoming C63 will be something else, even with the detuned 6.3L, since they know that the new M3 will be right around the corner. ~450HP... that's probably a similar power/weight ratio to a C6 Vette. Should also be interesting to see how easily it will be to tune that engine back to it's real ability of over 500 HP. If they restrict the output shearly by ECU settings, then it may be easy to put them right back up there. A 500 HP C63 would be a monster.
The handling, though... will probably be typical MB "numb". But that's their market.

The new C63 AMG will be a monster period. If BMW makes a 4 door M3 again I might be game. Until then the family car is the G.
