Intelligent key port

Does anyone use that little port on the lower left of the dash for their intelligent key? Seems a bit out of place and more of a pain to use then to just avoid it.

I put the key in there once, just to see if it fit.

I've never used it. My intelligent key never comes out of my pocket.......which is a very nice feature compared to my 03.

It's only there in case the battery goes dead in the intelligent key. Mine stays in my pocket (when I have to start our other car, it's like "a key?...rolleyes"

My key is in my winter jacket zipped up in a never used pocket and will probably stay there all winter.

I'm still trying to decide what to do w/ the key. I have a few other keys attached unfortunately. Last night I stuck it in the port and left it there overnight so I wouldnt forget it in the morning. My cars are locked in the garage and I've always left the keys in them.

Is that port's only purpose to hold the key?

To start the car when the intelligent key battery dies.

Has anyone else had wife/girlfriend put her purse in the trunk and then try to shut it? Since I managed to lock the keys in the trunk once (driving a rental at a beach in Mexico), I found the G's refusal to even latch to be a great feature that I didn't remember being mentioned.

That's true if there's only one fob, but it is possible to lock one fob in with another. There are corners in the interior and the trunk that are out of range of the door and trunk lid sensors. If I try to lock my wife's purse in the trunk and it's in the right spot, my fob will allow it to lock.

Hmmm.... did you then resort to locking her in the trunk WITH the purse?

Might explain the G35 I saw the other day with a skirt sticking out the trunk...

That sounds like trouble The G has an emergency release inside, I hope that guy is bullet proof.
