From: Atlanta - 45 minutes south
celltech,

Get the auto with paddle shift. I'm a big fan of the G, actually looked at them for 2 years before dropping cash on one. (didn't want the payments) I drove 3 before the final test drive, from an 03 through an 06, all autos. Finally on the very last test drive I decided to drive the 6MT.

From the 'fun factor'... it's a BLAST! But driving every day in an urban commute would SUCK!

I bought my G as a fun car, don't need it, never did. It sits in the garage sometimes for a couple of weeks under a cover without being moved. I've managed to put 7600 miles on it in almost 11 months all just driving around in the country, or either in the North GA mountains. Well... mostly in the country as thats where we live, but I do go downtown Atlanta once a month to my pain management Doctor, (We're about an hour south). Afternoon traffic on I-75, and even down here with everyone cutting off 75 trying to get through the little town square heading for points east of the square, with stop-n-go, stop-n-go, blah blah blah... SUCKS! Really makes me wish I'd done the auto then.

Then my wife had driven it twice to work, (some 22~28 miles depending which way she goes), up until Christmas break at college when my daughter had to put her G6 GTP in the shop for 10 days. The wife drove my car 7 more times then, but thats the only time it's been driven as a 'work' car. She complained that it was just too much trouble. She's used to one hand and one to two feet. (Yeah she's one of those that'll drive an auto with two feet usually)

Speed wise it's literally a wash. Especially now as the 07 makes more HP for the auto than the 06 did. (At least the sedan does, I'm guessing the coupe does as well.) I just had so much fun on the test drive doing donuts that I couldn't resist the stick as a mid-late-life crisis. Now I'm thinking C6 Z06 auto that'd fix that scratch a bit better even.

I think I read somewhere the "hang on lift" is for emissions or something like that.

I'm still on the fence for 6mt or auto, but will probably try to hang tough and see if there is a horse-power boost when the new coupe emerges.

...which is interesting because it implies there may be a way to "chip" it away.
