I don't think Dynapack and Dynojet numbers are directly comparable because of the fact that Dynojet numbers can be affected by the type of rims and tires you have on the car, traction, weight used to aid traction, tire slippage etc. whereas the Dynapack attaches to the hubs and eliminates all of these difficult to control variables.

Furthermore, there are probably differences caused by the fact that the rollers on a Dynojet maintains a certain level of inertia which will generate different hp readings at different RPM. Thus, while the Dynojet may be 6% lower at, say 3,000 RPM, it might be 3% lower at 6,000 RPM.

I think the only certainty is that the Dynapack puts out higher numbers than the Dynojet because it eliminates the power losses due to the weight of the rims/tires, tire slippage, etc.

This is going to be a VERY stupid question... but since i'm fairly new around here.. uh... what is a "REVUP" and "NON-REVUP" engine? hehe.. i'm assumping it's two different thing and not just.. reving up your engine.. haha... i hope someone can tell me this without laughing at me ;)

The comparison vehicles are from Church Dynapack but it is OK to make the comparison here because I had Dynapack calibrate my dyno to Shawns dyno.

I actually brought my dyno to Shawns where we dynod his car on my dyno and on his dyno on the same day. The results were then sent to Dynapack in NZ and a new calibration file was generated for my machine so my dyno was calibrated to Shawns.

For all the different dynos and different number in the world, we can finally say there are two dyno machines in California that will actually produce the same curve and the same absolute numbers on the same car.

Just different names for the different generations of engines.

Basically the non-revup engines can't revup.

I remember that a 6MT 350Z 287HP gets about 255 on Shawn's dynapack.

Nice comparison. I need some help understanding the message from these charts though. The '04 model had an advertised 260 HP as I recall, the '07 has 306 HP. The '07 is measured against a modified SAE standard - which I understand is "more conservative" - at least for many car makes - I believe Infiniti is one. So on the surface there should be a 46 HP diff +. I would think close to 60 HP with the SAE standard change. Even if the 260 was conservative - shouldn't we be seeing an even larger diff in HP? The Dynapack is showing maybe 27 HP diff. The 15 HP over the rev up seems a bit more in line with what I might have expected. I may be missing something key relative to dyno results :confused:

The 260 HP rating was way under rated.
It dynos the same as all other 2004 Coups@280 and Z's@287.

Thanks. There's been alot of discussion on this forum re: conservative HP rating of the '03/'04 engines. There is undeniably a big performance boost in '07 despite carrying a bit more weight. Seems like a flatter torque curve, with a more aggressive final drive ratio, are really making the diff - the +27 HP just being an "adder" to the mix.

yup, mine was dynoed 262 at church dynapack with just z-tube 1.5 year ago.

285 hp at the wheels compares very well the the bmw 335's dyno which is about 260-280 at the wheels, although vishnu can kick that number up to 315+ with a chip.

I would be interested in seeing a stock IS350 dyno overlayed with a VQHR dyno... I don't believe that the IS350 makes more torque...
