CF Card without Navigation Package

The CF card reader option is one of the best ideas I have seen on a car in a long time. Unfortunately, it appears that it only comes with the navigation package. I was wondering if it would be possible to custom install a CF card reader, or better yet, have it added by Infiniti as part of a special order, maybe giving up the CD changer in exchange.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks in advance.

As far as having Infiniti add a CF slot to a non-Navi equipped G, you are out of luck. Infiniti won't do a special order for you. As for trying to add a custom CF slot and have it integrated into the head unit, have fun. I wouldn't even think of attempting something like that. Why not just get the Navi?

Even if the CF card were added, you would have to integrate it into the head unit. I'm guessing software change? Ipod through AUX would probably be more effective.

Personally, I'd like to see if I can switch out the in dash CD for a DVD player. There shouldn't have been a cost issue and the HU software already has what Infiniti beleives to be safety blocks.

I'm sure things will start happening as soon as the service manual / schematics are released.

To add to this thread, it would also be nice to add a hard drive to the non-nav head unit.
-And Garnet Canuck asked "Why not just get the NAV?" Well, it costs more, you lose the in dash changer (6 MP3 cd capable), and you lose trunk opening space due to the trunk changer... -just a few reasons

I don't really want the navigation package. I do not believe I will use it very much. Certainly not enough to justify its $2000+ price tag. I can get a new laptop for that. The utility of a laptop is orders of magnitude more than the navigation system. I think the navigation system is well overpriced.

Also, I do not want XM, I want Sirius. I really like the idea of satellite radio, especially the part where there are no advertisements on the music stations. Unfortunately, XM has abandoned that proposition. Paying for commercial radio does not make a lot of sense to me. Plus, Sirius has a number of other features which are superior to XM. Apparently, if you get the navigation package, you have to get XM, and you cannot get Sirius.

Understood. Only you can decide what is more important to you. Since you won't be able to get the CF slot, I would go with an MP3 player and plug it into the AUX ports in the armrest.
