Burning Smell -- Is this Normal?!?!?

Anyone else notice a burning smell when you get out of your car after driving it? Seems to happen only once and a while. Most recently I happened to me yesterday after driving in the snow and ice for ~30 min.

I smelled it a lot when I first bought my car but I figured it was just protectants burning off of various engine parts...I have 3600 mi on it now, should I still be smelling this?

BTW, it does not smell like brakes...it's more of a plastic burning smell.

Yep. Generally in slush conditions. Not dry.
