VDC on/off button

Has anyone played with the VDC button? (located above the slot for the key fob) I have floored the car before from a standstill and the car has bogged before the power kicks in. I thought something was wrong until I spoke to my friend who's a mechanic and he said that the VDC is a safety feature that's really only necessary when it rains. After switching the VDC off and taking off from a standstill, I get immediate power, the rear tires squeal, the end starts to fish-tail and I have a big smile across my face. Has anyone else played with the VDC button as well?

Yes I'm sure we all have. There are a ton of stories on here from people who have paid the price for turning it off especially in poor road conditions and/or driving aggressively.

I'm still very new to RWD, coming from AWD and I am not messing with tracking control off.

i MUST turn it off to get through the poorly cleared, snowy roads in subdivisons (i'm not bothering with winter tires this late in the season). otherwise, i won't move.

that's the main reason cars have a button to turn off traction control (even non-sports oriented cars)... so you can get moving on ice/very slick surfaces

Good point. In that case it's a must to turn it off.

As noted on page 2-42 of the owner's manual, turn the VDC system off if maximum enginer power is needed to free a stuck vehicle from mud or snow.

If your not a very good RWD driver, I'd recommend leaving it on, it's traction control, and it will keep you from spinning out. (hopefully )

I think we've all played with the VDC button, but you really should leave it on. If you must, only turn if off for short periods of time when you think you need total control.

I can't count the number of posts I've seen of ppl that crashed their G, and we learn later that they turned of VDC.

It really is amazing how one button can "let the lion out of the cage" so to speak. The G' true driving dynamics come through once the button is off. I play around with it with the FX every great once in awhile but I'd rather not wreck.

Here's a tip - do NOT turn off VDC in the rain, and/or on a slick road. I forgot I had it turned off to do some mild testing in the rain, and hit the gas (note: not floored it, but hit the gas) going STRAIGHT in second at about 30 mph. Boom, the back end kicks out about 30 degrees, and I mean fast. Admittedly this road is old and slick, but still - the speed of the kick out was pretty stunning.

No particular harm done, but I have a newfound respect for the G's ability to break the rear end loose...

Yes - even if you switch it off it's back on with an engine restart.
