Dropping an X?

I've seen more than a few posters say that you can't drop an X? I'm really confused by this -- I just got rid of an A4 w/ quattro that was dropped. Why the heck can't an X be dropped?

Has anyone on the board dropped an X yet? I've searched through threads and it seems all drops have been on an S....

I think anything can be dropped if your $$$ is right...lol. They always say that AWD cars are a pain to drop but it can get done. My cousin also had an A4 and it was slammed!. I don't know if anyone has lowered an X either but if I see one or hear I will come back and post it up for you.

There is a LS colored lowered G35x in the forums. No reported issues.

The shocks are the problem.
The X has a different mount than the rest & nobody makes an aftermarket shock to suit the drop.

You could get the shocks mounts custom welded though.
Cut them off the OEM & weld onto some Koni etc.

The last three posts are why I'm so confused.

I'll try to get in touch w/ one of the 07 members that did it and will see what they did.

So should I do shocks & springs at the same time?

Depends on the amount of drop really & the springs you go to.
If you stick to a minor drop (eg 1" or less) and the spring rates are the same;
then the OEM shocks will be OK.

Mixing sport or aftermarket springs that have high spring rates than your OEM will not work well with your OEM shocks.
Springs & shocks need to work together.

j diddy, im no mechanic but the 2006 rwd tein htech springs worked great for me. a friend put them in for me and had no problems at all. as for ruining the shocks, ive had 3 previous cars lowered a decent amount on stock shocks and ive never had a problem, but anythings possible. for me it had to be done the x looks like a monster truck with the stock springs. if the socks are gonna be a issue ill worry about it when the time comes. hope this helps

salerngo45 your X looks so good with the drop. The more I see the dropped 07s the more I like.
I would not drop my 05X for clearance reasons and you guys have been teasing me with your pics and starting to sway me.
Well last night I was out in the X playing. I have said before it's like the car was on rails with AWD and Blizzaks. The thing is freakin awesome in the white stuff. But, I bottomed out a couple of times on the snow covered roads, if I drop this puppy it will be worse . looks like the decision to drop is out the door.
So what if there is wheel gap, I can use the X's capabilities to her fullest.

Man this car is a blast .
