Due for 3 mo./3750 service...

but only have 500 miles. Would you bring it or wait? Does the oil significantly degrade over time? Will there be fine debris that would be beneficial to purge at this early time?

I get free oil changes from my dealer so I don't have a reason to skip it.

Haven't heard anything about free oil changes. I just didn't want to seem crazy bringing the car in for an oil change at 500 miles.

I was fully expecting to do a factory order shortly after the '07 sedans arrived, in which case the car likely would not have been delivered before late winter/early spring 2007. It turned out that after the price was negotiated, the dealer was able to locate the precise car and have it diverted to IL when it was en route to CA. So I ended up getting the car on 12/8.

It has been a brutal winter in Chicagoland, so I've mostly been driving our beater ('95 240SX with 170k miles). The salesperson almost fainted when I ended up stopping by the dealership 3 weeks after picking up the car and it only had 90 miles on it.

Yeah I'd say so. I've been beating mine up, but don't blame me - I didn't make this car so damned fun!

Now that we're finally exiting the deep freeze...

I'm thrilled to be taking the G out more. It is a spectacular car for sure. We had some days that were between -5 and -10 F with wind chills of -20F, so there wasn't much incentive to take the G out, particularly as there was no way to wash it even indoors.

It is going to nice to be able to open 'er up after break-in. Even without exceeding 4k rpm, it is a blast to drive!

Talk about comparisons, though...alternating between the new G and the '95 240SX is like night and day. The 240 is still as rock solid as when it was new, however.

My dealer said they'd do the first oil change for me for free.

I actually had a similar question myself. I've been traveling a lot in the past couple of months, so by the time 3 months comes up, I'll probably only have 1000 miles on mine. Suppossedly, the first oil change is at 3 months 3,750 miles, or under "ideal" driving conditions (called schedule 2 in Infiniti's Service & Maintenance Guide) at 6 months, 7,500 miles. Now, I would never wait for 6 months before doing my oil change. But 1000 miles doesn't seem like much for the first oil change and was wondering whether I should wait another month or so... I suppose an old school of thought is to change it after 1000 even if it's less than 3 months, but I don't think that's needed in newer engines these days. Another thought is that since it will (hopefully) get warmer soon, maybe it's good to get an oil change anyway for the warmer weather (plus the old oil can just get old and lose viscosity). Or, just play it safe and get an oil change at 3 months.... I was hoping that the heated seats issue would be resolved by the time I go for my first oil change, but I heard it could be another 60 days before all dealers are equipped to fix the heated seats issue. That means it will be my second oil change visit, and it will be in the middle of summer when I can finally get my heated seats fixed.

It was part of the Devan Advantage (Devan is the dealer name). They said the only thing I have to pay for in the first 4 years (with the warranty and Devan Advantage taking everything else) are tires and a new batteries.

Take it in for service? Am I the only one planning on doing my own service? That whole ordeal is a scam.

To answer your question, if I was only at 500 miles, no I wouldn't take it in. I'd wait until 3,000 miles.
