Thanks for the reply's guys

I don't want to get a CTS unless it was the V and I can't afford that.

Can anyone give me the value of the limited slip diff? I know it distributes the power to both rear wheels but how much dollar value is that?

I think i am down to the following.

Blue slate or black with the dark interior. sport/prem/tech/nav don't know if i want splash gaurds or clear bra. Am I missing anything other than the car in my garage?

If you plan to keep the car for long term, probably best to look into Lexus or Acura. Otherwise, BMW is a worthy choice - I don't know why people say "buy BMW if you don't care about performance".

Lexus IS will probably be a bit too small for you. Acura TL is going to be redesigned soon and is FWD. G35 it is.

I am already planning on dropping 4k on another ring for her. She likes rings and I think that would help the purchase. I don't think money should be an issue because I started an on the sid business last month and I am bringing in an additional grand a month. So the 500 payment shouldn't be an issue. I will get one I just don't know when.

A bonus is that I know the owner of an infiniti dealer in LA so I should be able to get a killer deal.

I just bought my G35 and I love it. I had a tough time making the decision. The only other two cars I was really considering was the Lexus IS350 and the BMW 328i. The IS dropped out of the running pretty quick. The styling is cool but it's more expensive and its got less performance. It's also smaller, especially in the back. Now the decision between the G and BMW was much tighter. I loved the way the BMW performed and felt but the interior seemed less cool. It has the classic BMW look but it wasn't as futuristic and smooth as the G35. Plus the G gives you more options for the same money. Finally, the biggest thing was that I have high confidence that Nissan/Infiniti line will easily outdrive 200,000 miles. That confidence primarily comes from my last nissan which has 230K on it and still drives well. BMWs can't do that without a lot more service. I'm certain the CTS won't be able to achieve that.

I'm 6-4 and 220 and I'm very comfortable in the G. Although it is a little more crowded behind my seat. I let my wife pick the color, this way she thought it was all her idea. Started with the IP color and then showed her the brouchere with the Liquid Platinum. My master plan worked. I got a babysitter and took her for a test drive after a nice dinner and some wine she was ready to divorce me and marry the car. It is that good driving. She fell in love with the platinum color and the power and all the features. Needless to say, I didn't know the car also brings good luck. Perhaps it just has that affect on women? (ok, so maybe it was the wine and dinner). Honestly, I would not drive an Acura. I remember my neighbor bought a brand new one a few years ago and I put my foot in my mouth when I assumed it was used and asked him what year it was. They look dated to me. The Lexus just doesn't have the room or technology. Just didn't want to spend the money on the BMW, although I can afford just about any car I want, and I looked at the specs for leg room, etc on the BMW and didn't even bother to go to the dealer. Also, I had a 2002 V6 Altima (the newer version with the same base engine) and never had one issue. It has alot of power and was fun to drive. I am sold on Nissan based on 5 years of experience driving the Altima. You will not reget the G. I would go with the X version. You never know when you might relocate or need the AWD. For me it was a deciding factor since I live in Salt Lake City. 70F today, snow on Wed. Good Luck on your decision.

Thanks for the tip with the wife. I have owned 5 hondas. that is where the daluder name comes from (prelude). 88 accord, 95 prelude (loved this car), 98 civic (married my wife sold my car to buy 2ct. ring), 03 pilot (wifes car) and 03 accord (my current car). I buy hondas for resale value and they never break (I change oil every 15k).

So are Nissan's as good as hondas when it comes to resale and being reliable?

I sold my loaded v6 2002 Nissan Altima with 51k miles after five years for $15k. High retail was $17. I paid $26k. Very good resale if you get the right model and get it like I did when there is a new generation released. I hope my 2007 G35x will keep its value as well. So I think so.

I always thought I wanted a BMW. After buying a good size boat, large Diesel Excursion to tow it with, a large home, etc, I was ready to go for it. Then came the G and my priorities re-aligned.

"on par" is a major major under-statement

Even though I am a happy 07 G owner, I believe the 335i more than beats us in performance. (I don't live my life 0-60 or qtr mile all the time -- so it doesn't bother me at all)

Just go drive a few cars. Drive the Sport and the Journey and take her with you. Also drive the others: BMW, Lexus and Cadillac. Don't test drive a car that is not in your price range. If it costs too much don't drive it, you'll end up settling for a stripped down version of the car she liked that cost too much. Consumer Reports rates the G the best upscale sedan for 07. All of the Japanese cars did very well, Mercedes did horribly and the BMW's were so so. Figure out your finances first, then make a short list of possible cars. The G was the only one I had any interest in.

CTS V: I really like the CTS V. I saw one yesterday at the driving range and had to take a peek. It was silver, Tinted windows, mesh grill and V badges. I think they run about $50k and no sedan this size is worth $50k. In two years it will be worth $35k. Take your chances in Vegas with $15k. At least you have a chance of keeping your cash.

335: I saw a Black 335 today when we were going to dinner and my wife commented that it looked fast. It did look pretty sharp. My neighbor has a grey one that looks so-so, I would not even consider teh 335 by looking at my neighbors car. The black one was nice.

IS350: My buddy at the office has a silver IS350. I think it's very nice, but small and looks a lot like the scion coupe, "don't tell him I said that" Very nice inside. He got most of the options including GPS, Upgraded stereo, Sport Wheels and tires and drove it away for $40k. That's a lot of cash for such a small car. The G has more options than an IS350 and cost less.

CTS: The standard CTS is junk in my opinion. They look really stripped down and it's really lacking in style. Again the V is hot but this is not a V. I think the CTS look cheap, sort of a highschool girls car.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

No Offense, but if you listen to her and get a CTS, she's off doing the next thing and your stuck driving a mistake for years and then in about 4 months as you grind your teeth in silent disappointment over buying a heap of garbage in a CTS you will casually drive past a just washed G35 in Ivory Pearl on your way to dinner and your wife will turn to you and say " Ohhhh that's beautiful, What kind of car is that?" and that's when it hits you.

It's like her asking your opinion on perfume, and then 4 months later are you really going to remember that perfume over the next one she buys?

I'm saying this because I almost fell into the same trap of letting her opinion on "My" car carry weight until I had a good friend give me this exact conversation, and you know what... she absolutely loves this car more then the BMW 335i she prefered when I took her on the first dealership trip.

I know this is a G35 forum, but here's what I would recommend looking at:

1.) G35
2.) BMW 335i or, go with a 328i if you don't care about the extra performance
3.) Lexus IS 350 or go with an IS 250 if you don't care about the extra performance
4.) Acura TL, maybe the Type-S but it's not much faster then the base and it's IMO uglier, so stick with the base TL
5.) Audi A4 w/ Quattro

The one thing I have to say is don't fall victim to a CTS which is just another American piece of garbage which will feel like a 10 year old beat on rental car after 18 months of ownership. It really is a piece of crap and does not settle in well, it seams really nice for 1-2 years and then it starts unraveling. it's competition is more along the lines of a Kia. In the past 10 years I've never met a satisifed Cadillac owner, the company is in the shizzer. And anyone who is big on Cadillacs has never driven a German or Japanese car for an extended period of time... they just don't know. Put them in an Audi for 4 months and they will never set foot in a Crapillac again.
Not all american cars are garbage.
On what basis do you deterimine so matter of factly that the CTS does not hold up?
Have you owned one, or did your "good friend" have one
What is your sample size for determining Cadillac owner satisfaction?

I just had to add.. that I had the opposite problem..

My husband tried to talk me out of getting the G35s.. he talked sooo much sh*t about it and how many other cars I could get for the price etc. etc. etc.

Well when it arrived at the dealer he went with me to get it.. and he fell in love... and now he ALWAYS wants to drive my car instead of his..

I love the 07 G35s and I would buy it over again...
