Music Box / CF / CD for dummies

I took a stab and summarizing some of the basics re playback, recording and track info associated with the HD music box, in dash CD, CD changer (in dash or trunk) and Compact Flash Card.

I know for me, this would have saved my asking a lot of questions, so maybe it can help others who have yet purchased.

If I got anything wrong, or if there are other points that should be added, I would be happy to revise and repost.

Awesome !

Question, so you can't write your mp3s on a CD and copy them on the music box ?

Too bad the trunk changer cant play mp3s, but I can live with that.

No you cannot copy direct mp3 cds over to the music box HD.
It can only "rip" an audio CD ....
So burn your mp3 into a normal audio cd and then rip it (or better still just use CF cards to play your music )

Large sized CF cards like 8 is over a hunded buks, and 16 gigs are over 200-300. ANyone trieed, cause i already bought the sd card, and looking to buy the coverter. heres the link if anyone would like to check it out

Ther is really no reason to get a high capacity card due to the 512 song limit of the software. I have a full 2GB card with 462 songs on it.

Good stuff! Thanks for the effort. Another FAQ worthy material!

I have a 2GB card for that reason....but....there ARE reasons why one might get a 4GB card...some/many of those 512 songs could be for example, an entire side of an album..large songs take more space. Also some users may be creating files at higher bit rates. But I would say the norm is certainly 2 GB and the exception is 4GB.

Yeah that's what I said.
And that is also what is clearly explained by the attached document -- did you look at it ?

max2k1 , it sais it, but it's not 100% clear whether you cannot record from the CDs only or from CDs and CF.

I wonder if there's a patch/module that can do that.

So let's compare.
in dash cd changer - 6 cds x 700 mb = 4200 Mb for MP3 files.
NAV system - 1x CF = 4000 mb + 1xCD = 700 Mb => total 4700 mb.

I hate such compromises. Why couldn't they just put the HDD deeper in the dash board, and not move everything arround.

You are missing the harddisk ... that's about 9 gb as well.

You can rip CDs from the in-dash player into the HD .... it automatically converts them to mp3 ..... you just cannot copy a mp3 directly - that's the catch.

Plus you are not restricted to 1 CF card -- you can use 3 or 4 or whatever.

I have the latest Adobe software and the music box for dummies file won't unpack. Don't know why.

So I have a question about the Music Box. Can I somehow show a list of the songs I have loaded from CD's ? I would like to see it on the screen in list form so I can compare to what I have on my computer yet to be loaded.

I've only had the car a short while so I'm still learning.

Any suggestions ??

I could not get the attachment to open either.

I don't think there is a way to sort all songs in a list outside of a sort by album or artist.
