I find the auto on/off really annoying with its ON logic. It really needs to have much more of a delay built into when it decides to turn the headlights on. They shouldn't come on when I pull into my garage or go under an overpass. I wish there was a delay setting that was applied to ON as well as off.

I love tha auto on feature but you make a very good point Mike. A delay so it would not come on as quickly as you say would be a welcome feature.

I have some overpasses on the freeways near me - and they are DARK!
So the quicker they come on the better. More for making sure people see ME.
There are accidents in those dark 'tunnels' very frequently.

So I guess my vote would mess up the curve?

Yeah, so you don't get a vote! ;-)

No, that would be fine, as long as there was an On delay adjustment, because I don't want to shorten the life of my lamps with them coming on every time I pull into my garage, only to shut off 30 seconds later. Too much hysteresis!

Why don't you just set the sensitivity lower - wouldn't that accomplish the same thing? It wouldn't come on as soon as it got a tiny bit dark it would wait.

Turn the headlight selector to off before entering the garage, then when you leave flick it back to auto. I think it would be more of a PITA to have a delay before they turn on if you're driving at night because you'll need to wait for the headlights before taking off.

Cool The Auto Headlights are Really Annoying!

Guys,

I also find this feature annoying, as there seems to be no rationale in it's programming. Not only do they go on and off when entering/leaving the garage, going through a tunnel, or a under highway underpass, but then they don't always go off when you return to full daylight.

There have been times, for example, when stopping at a traffic light under an overpass where my lights will go on. That's OK but then they don't go off right away once I am continue driving in full daylight. There have been days where the lights stayed on for as much as 5 minutes before they go off again. This happened to me yesterday, and I got tired of waiting so I turned the switch to Off, waited about 5 seconds, and returned it to Auto. When I did this, they did not go on again.

On the flip side, there have been times when they would go on (and stay on) on a cloudy or overcast day (especially in the morning) or at dusk, but other times under the same conditions, they will either not turn on at all, or they will go off shortly after being activated.

As for the sensitivity, I have mine set for the '2nd position from the left' (one position before the lowest sensitivity setting), and I still have the problem.

Regards,

Ahh .. you must be talking about the 110 tunnels. I bet you must also be feeling confident about being able to take on those super short 110 on-ramps with the G's acceleration, huh?

I'd vote for a user adjustable delay.

LOL! YES! The 110 north of the tunnels is a blast! Designed and built for horse drawn carriages is my bet... but the G has no problem at the *cough* speed limit!

The real killer is that if you set your nav to "auto" day/night setting, it also flips on and off in schizophrenic synch with the headlights.

Haha, I see you're burning with Flames pride, ChristianN. Ahhh.......Oilers Oilers...*shakes head*

Back on topic, I've ended up just turning my lights on at night manually by switching to Auto, and when I park in the garage, I flick it to off before I get out of the car. And during the day, I just leave it to off. No "auto" for me!

having been a car guy for over 40 years...
one thing Ive learned is that the headlights perform two important dutys...
1 is to iluminate things in the dark
2 is to let people see you coming

your headlights will be visible for miles, to others, before you can see what they are illuminating.

now obviously coming on in the garage is a bit of a waste but it gives you an instant check that its working.
coming on in a tunnel makes sense... its instant dark... not totaly dark of course... we are probably wearing sunglasses... and your eyes wont react as fast... anyone wandering around in there will see you comming... and any reflective safety strips etc will be more obvious in the tunnel.

search ownz me... and the manual is painfully usless...
how do we adjust the amount of time that the lights are on once the car is off and the doors are shut ? I want to reduce mine.
