One recently sold on ebay for around $131 with uncut key. Seller was Riverside Infiniti.

Only $200. I remember the manager at TO Infiniti telling me it cost $1000+ to replace a fob. If it's only $200, I wonder why he would tell me that.

The Key and Fob are about $100 and the programming is another $100. They are the same ones used on all the Nissan cars down to the Versa. The price is the same. I was going to get another spare when I bought the car. When they program the new fob they need all of them otherwise the old ones will cease to function.

Here's some:

The programming I believe is actually a small process that you can do yourself. The dealer just charges you because it's another small task that they can make money from.

The only problem with these are that the physical key hidden in the fob is already pre-cut. But if you want some spares just for the "intelligent key" functions..these are great alternatives

I inquired on a remote car starter for my G.
The dealer said that part of the cost was for the $125 keyfob which is installed in the dash.
It's installed in a location that allows the remote starter to start the car, but not some schmuck who screw-drivers your door.

So, case in point... depending on the dealer and how much they wanna rape you, it should cost somewhere around $125-$150 for the fob with programming.

Took mine in yesterday to get it reprogrammed after my nightmare a few days ago (see other post).

The tech told me he had only done a couple keys before, but that the first one he tried to do took him 2 days. He said the process was quite complicated until he got the hang of it. He was saying something about it all beind done by laptop and that the description of the process was very lengthy. Even with experience now, it still took him about 45 minutes to do mine, and he did have to do both keys like the other poster said. I guess they have to wipe out the programming on both and start fresh.

Interestingly, he said my problem key was actually completely broken...toast...it wouldn't take the programming at all. Strange, as I hadn't dropped it or banged it or anything. Fortunately they had a new one in stock (although I suppose if needed they could have just taken one from any cars in inventory).

Trecherous, AesonVirus, 'G'TA - thanks for the info. That stuff is really good to know. I was pretty skeptical when I did see those things on e-bay. I guess I was wrong about the programming process being quite simple. Good luck to the rest of us...I hope this doesn't happen too often.

My wife lost her key fob last week, ugh . We've had the car for 2 weeks.

The dealer, Infiniti of Chantilly, VA, charged me $115 for the fob and $99 to reprogram. They had to have the other fob as well. I should have gotten a spare because it would have been the same $99 charge to do all 3 fobs at once.

'G'TA - I had the same deal. Key was non functioning and completely dead. The dealer replaced it and reprogrammed the new key and my other still working key. Scary though because the fob was never abused or even dropped but was dead in 2 months. My dealer was quick at it, but that's because he had already unfortunately had 5 dead keys....
