Car is In! What do I need to ask at pickup?

Ordered a black on black G35s MT with premium and nav last Saturday and was told it would be 2-4 weeks. I just got a call that it was being rolled off the truck.

So, I'm happy and such, but I got to thinking about the predelivery training and how green my sales guy is to the Infiniti product line. (I think this was his second car sold). What do I need to make sure he hits when I pick the thing up tomorrow?

when this happens, you probably know the car better than the new salesman does. When i went to pick up my car, i know everything about it, every feature and how to work it. So i just let the salesman do his little walk over when they explain everything about the car while i just wandered off in my own little world admiring my new car.

Make sure you have them check the air pressure in the tires. It's usually high from the factory.

Assuming they've done the usual 'check the oil, fluids, etc.'. Check out the car CAREFULLY when you pick it up, for random scrapes / problems.

Make him show you have the NAV works, sometimes they'll hit on something you didn't know about. You can ask him to explain the seat / mirror synchronization, and set that for you since it's a minor PITA to get it right. But my sales guy was actually pretty sharp, and he didn't know about it, so good luck with your new guy.

You might check the seat heaters and have schedule the fix if you have the wiring harness problem (i.e. bottom and back seat cushions heat up at diff rates / temps).

Good luck and congrats!

Make sure you get 2 Keys, the small metal tag with key ID number, and the card indicating your wheel lock replacement code.

I never got my wheel lock card

Keep meaning to go to the dealer, but have not had time

Supposed to be optional, but everyone seems to have them.

I think it depends on the dealer. My car was a dealer trade and didn't have them, but the dealer I purchased from put them on before I left.

Thanks for the info so far guys! Keep it coming.

One of the things I did notice is that I knew a heck of a lot more about the car than the sales guy, thats for sure. I think that helped in my negotiations to though.

This was a dealer trade as well, so I will let you guys know about the wheel locks!

Ask him to help you adjust the seats, steering wheel, etc. and then save the changes (associating it with your key fob). If your significant other is with you, also make the adjustments and associate the adjustments with the other key fob. Later, you'll likely want to readjust the seats, etc. once you've driven the car more. However, it's nice to make the initial adjustments and save them at the dealership before you drive off for the first time, so you can concentrate on other features/aspects of the car once you pull out of the dealer's parking lot.

Also, you may want to read the manual (available online if you haven't downloaded it yet, but you probably have) regarding Infiniti's recommended break-in, so you don't do WOT too early (yeah, very tempting on a brand new G35).

Congratulations and enjoy!

Don't forget the changer magazine... Other than that, the keys and metal tag that were mentioned are the most important IMO.

When I picked mine up Kenny did a great job setting everything up well ahead of time. Best experience that I've had buying a car... even better than when the guy spent an hour going over all the controls with me when I got my Benz.

They set up my home destination in the navi, set up the seats/memory, he activated the XM radio trial and even set up some stations that he figured I'd like. It was ridiculous.

Pick up went as well as expected.

They didn't have small metal Key ID tag, so they are looking for one for me. No wheel locks either.

The only problem is that there were small surface scratches on the front driver's side quarter panel. Looks like someone was scoping out the engine and leaned over on it. didn't look like it broke the clear coat but its a black car so it's noticable. I am droping it off on Thursday for them to be taken out and to have the car re-waxed.

Overall, I'm psyched about the car. Its a blast to drive and I haven't taken it over 3k rpms. Can't wait to hit 1200 miles for a real romp.

Thanks again to all for the advice!

ask for someone to double up with him on the delivery since he's new. just ask nicely and tell him it's not personal, you just want to make sure everything's covered.

as for the other prep stuff (air pressure, detail, etc), that's the service department and the detail dept's job. the salesperson will just look over the work but s/he is not the person that DOES those jobs.
