Will mods improve mpg?

Will any modifications to my 07 G35 Sedan improve the mpg? I have never been one to fix up cars, but going from a civic to a g has really put a dent in my wallet. My friend said that an intake ought to improve the mpg.

In this case, your friend is wrong. The G has dual intakes that already breathe easy...

^^ +1 ... the 07 G has something very close to a true CAI already.

You can't do anything to the G to get it close to the mileage of a 4 cyl civic -- no way.

You can drive sensibly and get a few more mpg. Also anything that reduces weight would increase your mpg. (remove junk from the trunk etc)
Use cruise whenever possible - shift to the highest gear as quickly depending on conditions.

And yeah - gotta accept that the G puts a lot of on your face --- gas is just the price to pay !

The only thing that will help your mpg is you and the way you drive.
99+% of the time mods decrease mpg because people like to use them and hear them.

i agree, any mods which supposively increase horsepower will require the need for more air, fuel, ignition, thus...decrease in mpg.

When you say "junk" are you referring to his wife/GF? JK!!!!!!!!!!

I found modifying my driving habits are the only way to help your MPG in the G. It's hard to resist going full throttle sometimes.

The only way to really improve the MPG on a G35 is to trade it in for a Prius!

Actually, everytime you fill up, your wallet will be a lot lighter and that should improve the MPG!

Gas mileage is not a selling point for this car.

I'd rather not elaborate on that one

LOL

I have two to help make up for the mpg lost from each turbo.

i wish nissan could develop cylinder deactivation for the engine at the touch of a switch.

4 cylinder mode would really help for city mileage i think. and also for stop and go traffic.

I have to confess here.

I've always wondered about people buying luxury cars that complain about gas prices. You knew going into it that the MPG is terrible, and that you'd need premium.

Why are you driving this car if it's a concern?

Also, like someone above said -- the only way to increase gas mileage is driving habits. Don't floor it. Maintain constant speed. Using the A/C usually saps about 1MPG or less.

Seems like i'm getting about the same gas mileage as my previous small 4-cylinder car.

You don't have to rev high rpms with the G just to get it cruisin'(h*ll, with the 4cyl, i practically had to redline everytime just to get to merging speeds).

Highway RPMs are about almost half as much as a 4cylinder.

I know the G is fat pig, but it's not like your hauling a Hummer or anything.

IMO, it's only about $1 or two difference and quite impressed with MPG of the G35.

True, you do know about the mileage going into it. However, having said that, there should still be room for some improvement, even in a luxury car. My old 2000 BMW 3-series got 29 - 30 MPG consistently, and that would be considered a luxury car. Even the new 335i, the car this car competes directly against and has the same horsepower, gets 20/29 EPA, so assumably around 25 mpg on average. I'm now living with 20 mpg and paying the price.

I do love this car, the mileage is my only real complaint.
