2: ) As mentioned above, it is not confimed that anything will be changed for the 6MT tranny in the 08 Sedan. Even if it was, I doubt I would have waited although my decision was made six months ago.

3: ) Other vehicle is a mini van, don't use the G for hauling.

4: ) In six months, I have a couple small nicks on the grill. None large enough to mention to the dealer. I am sure the dealer would take care of it if it really bothered me. What I would rather do is black out the grill like someone else did here recently, that looks hot.

This car does have a few little quirks, but I still get a smile on my face every time I get on it.

You want to talk issues, my last car, an Acura TL, lost it's tranny within 10K on the odometer. When I brought it in, the dealer tried to tell me it was because of customer abuse because my rotors were warped. My rotors were warped because of Acuras crappy brakes. I recently got a class action lawsuit class notification for all TL owners about faulty tranmissions. Abuse- pfft
New to this forum and thinking about getting 07 g35x auto, have a 04 TL and I am sick of Acura weak brakes, and a shake at 60 mph looked at a 335i but it has little problems too, TL's back seat does not fold that how they get a stiffer body I wish it folded. Hope to get it soon not really waiting for 08 not many changes going to happen.

1.) Does anyone who owns a 6MT model ever wish they'd have opted for the automatic? I've heard many complaints about the odd clutch engagement.

2.) I may wait for the 2008 model, mainly because of the refinements to the 6MT gearbox and clutch. To those who own a 2007 manual, would that be worth the extra wait and slightly higher cost?

3.) The rear seats unfortunately do not fold down; has this ever hindered anyone's ability to carry items in the trunk?

4.) The grille chipping issue is distressing to me. Has anyone asked their dealers if replacements will be available under warranty when it becomes really awful? I'm hoping Infiniti has a fix in the works.

Thanks in advance and I seriously can't wait to get in the new G35 if all goes well.
1. I have a G35x (wanted AWD), which only comes in automatic. The automatic's DS mode is quite nice to drive with. There was another thread that discussed the DS mode somewhere...

Make sure you take an extended drive (not just the typical 10 minute drive, but longer). Try to go to the dealership when they're not busy, so they won't mind if you take it out for a long drive.

2. If you can manage to wait, go to the dealers as the '08 models are coming or about to come, and see how much discount they're willing to give on the '07. You'll also have a better idea what features in the '08 you may want. Personally, I'd get the '08, but if the price difference was HUGE, I may rethink an '07.

3. Some manufaturers claim that not having folding down seats helps the car do better in crash tests. Whether that's the case w/ the G, don't know. My other car is an XC90 SUV, so I'm not worried about having to haul stuff.

4. I haven't had any problems with my grill (knock on rosewood).

I have always driven MT cars, when i test drove the G, i test drove both a MT and an AT and i was stunned to find that i actually preferred the AT over the MT.

I ended up purchasing an AT, and i have not regretted it for one second, its an AMAZING car...the AT does not impact the "driver experience" at all in my book and i'm coming from nearly 20 years of consistently driving MT cars.

While the G's MT is very good, i thought it was a little harsh for my driving.

Good luck!

I have a 6 spd, no regrets whatsoever. The clutch and tranny are NOT flawed (at least not on my G). Clutch is worlds apart from the 02 WRX I had before and is a bit tricky to get used to but IMO just different. A test drive in a 6 spd left me with doubts but I am so glad I did not let it pursuade me into an auto. At any rate, clutch/tranny changes for 2008 sedan are rumors and may not change the feel.

I wouldnt (didnt) wait. Get an 07 when the 08s show up, they are likely to be the same car, but 07 will be a better deal.

As far as the vibration through the shifter, any car I have ever owned/been in with any bXlls has some. This is the pulse of the car showing it is alive. Some other high end mfrs attempt to sterilize this out of their cars. Why????

No grill chipping issues here, the rubber side boots on my sunroof fell off but I dont think they had a purpose anyway and they sit in my garage. The wifes pathfinder doesnt have these, and the sunroof does not leak when raining.

Hope this helps. Awesome car.

1) No 6MT here, but from the test drive () I would probably say wait for the '08.

2) I would say worth the wait.

3) Nope

4) Our grille still looks new, had the car since February.

Nissan clutches do seem to be very different than any other manufacturer. I have gotten so used to it, I have a tricky time adapting to driving other standards.

You have to remember that Nissan had money problems in the 90's. They came out of it by going with thinner sheet metal, cheap paint, cheap plastics this is how they got out of the red. I wish they would go back to better materials but its all about the money.

It really depends on the car, our Altima SE-R 6MT was alot different than the G sedan's 6MT.

I dont think they are doing much better now. Nissan at least, is still discounting everything where I live. I dont know about Infiniti.

I have chips in my grille. I spoke to the dealer. Infiniti is aware of the problem and will be correcting the issue. My dealer replacement mine for me in the meantime and will replace it again when the new one becomes available.

I owned an '05 6MT G35 sedan and literally wished it was an auto 2 weeks after purchasing the car. I finally got rid of it last year and got an auto TL. I've had the TL auto for six months now and I still grin every time I drive it.

I originally got the 6MT thinking it was cool, more powerful (298 vs 280hp), and maybe put the fun back into driving. Afterall, I learned now to drive on a stick, drove the honda/acura stick for 6 years including the Integra.

Let me tell you, the Infiniti stick is a different animal. It was notchy, very difficult to drive smoothly, and the gear box transmit tons of vibration up your arm. It's probably the worse stick shift car I've ever driven.

And worse yet, as good of a stick driver as I am. I'm no where near as fast compare to auto at the stop lights. Mainly because of missed shifts. The number quoted in magazines assumes perfect shifts. I took a 4 day grand prix course at Bondurant with a Corvette manual so believe me when I say I can drive a stick. Get the auto to guaranty a sure lanch every SINGLE time.

The other reason I didn't like the 6MT was traffic. If you live in areas with traffic, do yourself a favor and get the auto. Believe me, one bumper to bumper trip from San Diego to Orange County and you wish you bought an auto.

Good luck.

paint chips happen with every car that i have ever owned. the touch up paint helps.
one more thing, i think generally, all things being equal, MT will last longer than AT (although MT clutch will probably need to be replaced at some point). this is only a consideration if you plan to drive the car for more than 100k miles.

I have an 05' coupe 6MT. The stock clutch is crap, the engagement is way too high. However, you can have the dealer adjust this for you and it will significantly improve the feel (at least it did in my car). My next mod will most likely be an aftermarket clutch...otherwise, I love the car!
