Newb Question on Music Box

2007 G35x with Nav

OK, I searched under "Gracenote/Music Box/Titles/Etc." and, sorry, but my 50+ year old mind can't seem to get at my issue. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm in the process of loading about 400-500 songs from my iTunes library on my Mac by burning CDs (as audio files not mp3s) and having Music Box record them one by one as albums. I get 14-19 songs per CD. This works fine but is hugely time consuming. Also, there are no titles/artists, even though I have tried "sending" that information to Gracenote via the iTunes "Advanced" menu.

1) I don't mind the recording CD by CD (I can just do it while driving) but - is there any way to at least get the titles/artists to be read and stored by the Music Box rather than entering info manually?

2) Any other suggestions to make this process faster/better?

Lastly, I would rather not use a CF (would rather not have to buy a card and an addapter for the Mac).

Many thanks and sorry if this has been covered multiple times already.

The music box/gracenote will only recognize commercially available whole albums - if you make a cd of mixed tracks or it's not a complete album, it won't recognize them and you'll have to enter the info manually.

I haven't used non-whole-album cd's but I think that it they are burned correctly the system will recognize the tracks if they are played throught the in-dash cd or cd changer - maybe someone can jump in with details.

A lot of people seem to do the CF route so you may find that to be best route even if you have to buy the card & reader.

If you burn your own cd, if you choose to burn CD TEXT on to the CD the music box will use the CD TEXT for artist and titles. I do not use iTunes so I'm not sure if it writes the CD TEXT or not.

It may be worth your while to just use the CF card as you will be saving yourself a lot of time and trouble.

What do you mean use the CF card? I thought you couldn't add files to the music box from the CF drive?

You can't, he is just saying to use the CF as an alternative to the MB.

Ctomsee,

I am in the process of doing the same thing, i use itunes as well. What the previous poster said is indeed correct. Its simply a matter of making the proper selection in itunes.

Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Burning > Select "Include CD Text" > OK

What that means for the songs you've currently burned is that they are useless. I would scrap all of those cd's and start over. (Your other alternative is entering the titles manually but i can assure you that is more time consuming and frustrating than just starting the burnign process over again)

Hope this helps and enjoy.

Not true. As noted if you burn them through Itunes with CD Text on, they will rip, load and play just fine. I have several mix CDs I have done this with.

Many thanks to everyone who replied (so far). I am just about to burn a CD with the "Include CD Info" on my iTunes preferences. I will write up a short reply on my experience with this. Thanks again to all!

Man, do I feel dumb.... I never noticed that "Include CD Info" selection in iTunes burning preferences before. It worked like a charm! No more manual entering. As brian928 (many thanks, btw) suggested, I'm just going to delete and re-record the input CDs. Let the (re)burning begin....! Thanks again to all - great community here.

Some real newb cars. I don't have a G35 and I'm sure the answers are somewhere but thought I'd shoot:

1) Can you use a Data CD-R with MP3s on it and have it play those? Will it rip them?
2) What about DVD-A and/or DVD-R/DVD-RW?
3) What about regular CD Audio (WAV) on CD-RW so at least you're not throwing away tons of discs?

The search function is your friend.

I'm not positive on any of those since I haven't tried them but I'm fairly certain the answers are here.

1. Yes, with the in-dash CD player. You can't rip them to the MB though.
2. No
3. Yes, you can burn audio CD's to a CD-RW and rip to the MB. I've personally done it.

Another quick newbee question...I'll be picking up my G35S tomorrow (hopefully) and want to burn some CDs. The majority of my music is purchased from iTunes, not the local record store, so I don't have any full CDs to burn. To burn them onto the car with the names, etc., do I have to burn regular, playable CDs, or can I burn the iTunes songs as MP3s and store many on the disc? I think iTunes might have some copyright protection that wouldn't allow the MP3 versions to be copied, so I'm guessing I have to burn full CDs, but want to check, as it could save me time.

Also, does the "include CD text" feature only work for songs that are purchased form iTunes, or for all songs on iTunes?
