Intelligent Cruise Control

So I am driving home from Massachusetts last night on I90. Beautiful smooth road with very few cops when going over the mountains. I have the cruise control on and we are heading up a hill. Suddenly the car beeps and the cruise shuts off! I look down and the cruise indicator is just blinking. I turned it off and back on. It worked fine for awhile and then happened again! Just beeps and turns off. It happened two more times in the 3 1/2 hour ride. I noticed that each time it happened we were headed right into the setting sun but dismissed that as coincidence. NOPE. The manual states that the Intelligent Cruise Control will shut off under a number of conditions including: Wipers on, VDC off, snow mode on (for the X), any wheel slippage, a dirty sensor, and, yes you guessed it, heading into direct sunlight.
I am glad it was not a malfunction. I am bringing the car to the dealer on Friday though for an oil change and to put the damn weather strip back on both front doors. Annoying but no big deal. I thought I would share. Have a great day.

im not sure what the book states...but i know if i have my vdc off and try to engage the cruise control that it will not work. I have to turn on my vdc, turn off the cruise and then back on, then once i set it, it works fine. I notice that sometimes on hills it seems to get a little bit confused.

I actually found this out the other day too. I was crusing down the road and it just shut off and like you said was blinking. So what do I do turn it back on and what does it do turn off. I finally came to realize that it kept turning off when in direct sun light.

I do alot of heavy congested belt parkway driving so i dont use it as often as id like...but this weekend i actually went down to AC and used it and i actually think its a pleasure. I didnt have that sunlight problem, but i cant remember if it actually was exposed to direct sunlight.

Driving into the sun crashes the system. The only way to fix it is to turn it off and back on after the sun is no longer in your direct view. I've also found that even when the suns setting behind me that reflections off the back of other vehicles windows or chrome can also shut the system down.

I guess the sun interferes or "jams" the sensors. I thought it was a laser system, but I guess it's IR. sonar are the best systems.

Was it blinking super fast? Only cause it does that on my FX. Never did it until 2 years in. I've had them change every single part of the ICC, and it still does it once in a while. I don't think mine is due to sunlight though.

I've never had anything like that happen in my FX and I use it all of the time. I can't say that I remember being exposed to direct sunlight, though.
