Infiniti's option bundling sucks

I'm not even ready to buy yet, most likely I'll keep my GTO another year or so, but I've been looking at the various G35 models and options, and it sure seems to me that Infiniti takes buyers by the short hairs when it comes to adding options.

I mean, I might like the upgraded sound system, but not nearly enough to eat the $2300 cost of the premium package. I don't really care about anything else in the premium package. Why can't I just get the SOW separately for a reasonable cost?

Similarly, I might be willing to splurge for the $2000 nav package  by itself, if it did not require the premium package as a prerequisite.

I know car makers are doing the bundling thing more and more, so to some extent you almost always have to pay for some items you don't want. But I'm not willing to turn a $33k car into a $37-38k car when I really just want a couple of those options. If I was buying right now, I'd have to go G35S with no options whatsoever. I hope Infiniti loosens up on this extreme bundling for the 2008-2009 models.

I honestly don't know why anyone would by this car without the premium package. I understand 2300 is a lot of money, but what you get is well worth it:

SOW
Sunroof
T/T steering wheel
Heated seats (may not be needed depending on region)
Memory Seats/Mirror/Steering wheel
One Touch up/dwown windows
Lumbar support
Homelink
Bluetooth

buy a bimmer...they itemize EVERYTHING, but you'll end up paying more for the individual items ;)

I'm with you on this one. I wish I could have found a base model with no goodies installed. It's all extra weight as far as I'm concerned. I highly doubt they let up on the bundles. In fact over the past few years they seem to be having less options.

+1. I utilize everything (save the heated seats) that's included in the prem pkg almost on a daily basis.

Now if only the tech pkg could be had w/o the addition of the nav pkg...

not true... they made a lot of options standard like dual climate control, xenons b/c people want them. infiniti is moving their brand image upstream they might place a car under the G in the next upcoming years.

Exactly the reason why I bought the infiniti instead of the new 328xi. The base price was $38,500 on the BMW and it had NOTHING in it. No leather, no HID's, nothing... Such a waste of money.

I dont care what anyone says, Infiniti gives you the most car for your money when comparing it to the other luxury companies out there.

From my experience, what Infiniti does is no different than pretty much any other car manufacturer. Lexus is certainly no different. If I were to buy an IS350 here in Canada and wanted the ML sound system....guess what, the only way I can get that is by purchasing a $10,800 package.

personally, i like the honda/acura model the bestest. easy and simple. toyota/lexus is worse than infiniti/nissan.

DannyDeez Jun 29, 2007 01:01 AM

+1 Lexus option building is horrible.

IPM6G Jun 29, 2007 01:11 AM

Bottom line get Navigation, you'll regret it in the end.

GreenGoblin Jun 29, 2007 01:14 AM

it is totally worth every penny in my book would do it agin in a heart beat

theacolyte Jun 29, 2007 01:36 AM

Wow... I totally disagree.

Premium has so many features it's a given you'd get it.

Sport is so cheap with so many benefits (bigger rims, "better braking", etc)

Tech was the only one that made me choke, but it was pretty cheap.

I have them all and I like the way it's laid out. But... to reiterate what others have said -- every car manufacturer is like that. Except BMW... and Ferrari... where you actually pay extra for stitching in the leather (no joke).

hyukki Jun 29, 2007 02:01 AM

I definitely think the premium package is worth it.

UltimateGee27 Jun 29, 2007 09:48 AM

i disagree....prem is def worth the extra bucks (BOSE SOW  ). Infiniti navi system is top notch compared to the rest of the field. After opting for it on my build i have not once regreted it. I think you are wrong thinking the INFINITI Building options sucks, just look at the other car companies I.E. Toyota, Lexus, BMW...
