To Navi or not Navi

Is factory Navigation package on the 07 G sedan worth it? Of the package, I am only interested in the CF player and HD storage of music and would probably not use the navigation much since I will not travel with this car. Does the CD player play mp3s in the premium package? I understand some function of the Navi will not work while moving,; what are those and can it be bypassed?

IMO the nav is definitely worth it. I will never buy a car without it. I find that it is the best nav system out there, superior even to Toyota/Lexus system. Getting the traffic is helpful also, but not necessary. I believe without the nav the cd player still reads MP3's.
The harddrive and CF reader a great source entertainment and you have to get the nav package if you want the Tech package. It's a very good value.

You absolutely MUST get the Nav system. FYI there is no Music Box or CF without it. It's the best Nav system I've seen, easy to use, and the integrated XM Traffic monitor is terrific.

I have to confess. I was really, really hesitant to buy the navi package.

For one, 98% of my driving is roads I know. And for the 2% I was fine using Google maps.

Well, I got it anyway, and I'll tell you -- it's really, really nice.

I use it maybe once a week or so, and it's proven invaluable a few times navigating from unknown places on road trips.

lol why not just get a Nuvi 350 for 100 bucks

atleast its useful for more than one vehicle.

besides, the GPS on that thing will be out of date sooner or later and theres no ripping it out of the car for a new one.

x2

I'll either mapquest ahead of time or call and get directions while i'm driving.

I couldn't justify another $2,300 for something I've used maybe 2-3 times in cars that are equiped with nav.

Uh...do you really think someone who just paid $2k for navi is going to say "You know, I hate it..."?

There are a ton of threads on this, let me recap my answer :
  • Didn't want Navi despite it being "free" (wife buying for bday)
  • Have a Nuvi 350 which I can switch from vehicle to vehicle
  • Use my iPod in the car, so I only have to synch one item
  • I will say it would be mildly useful to have the HD and show music on the screen - but since I just run huge playlists anyway, not a prob
  • Peace

I love the navigation system. I had it for the first time on my '05 G35 Sedan and I can't live without it. I use it even when I know where I am going. The Point Of Interests (POI) are great and you never have to wonder which block that restaurant is on. You can focus on other things. Also, it adds a lot of depth to the car. The integration is clean and beautiful and that alone would blow away an aftermarket navigation, though cheaper.

+1 I agree, I love navigation. I will not purchase another car w/o it. It's not a matter of need, but convienence. Sometimes access to mapquest or yahoo maps is not available. If you take a wrong turn, no problem. If you're driving outside your home city and want to know if (where) your favorite restaurant is, no problem. If you have to re-route because of traffic issues, no problem. There are some aftermarket alternatives that are cheaper, but I enjoy and appreciate the seamless factory integration, along with the extras that come with the trip and maintenace computers. Plus, since I only own one car, transfer capabilities is not an issue.

Had navi in my 03 coupe used like 5 times, so i opted against it.Also did'nt like the memory capacity of hard drive.
Prefer just having xm,mp3 player and burned wma file cd's.Tons of music for short or long trips.

IMO...getting a portable GPS from Garmin or Magellan is the best option since I have 3 vehicles....but I ended up with 3 portable GPS's these lil toys are soooo cheap now and work sooo well I'm glad I didn't opt for the navi
