i came home around 1:30 pm and accidentally left my car on for about 6 hrs! I wasted about a 1/4 of a tank of gas...do you guys think this is damaging at all to the car?

Only if it overheated. Might have deposited some carbon on the valves etc., but you can blow that out :^)

Hmmm...anyone have an opinion on how whether the oil pressure would be low enough at idle to cause a problem over a long period? I'd guess no, you'd think the engineers would cover that parameter.

I was standing by my car at work this AM and almost walked away with the car still on. I noticed the heat coming from the front end and then noticed the radio was till lit up. I think it's the lack of a key that throws me off, plus the car idles very quietly.

Didn't the car beep at you when you walked away with the key?

What? I do it all the time. I often turn the car on and then get out and lock it and go inside. It does beep at you as stated but it can be done.

Hey Cheryl - you're warming the car up? Or just forgetting to shut it off?

No, it's usually that I forgot something and I have to go inside for it or it's that my son doesn't want to go inside with me for something so I let him sit in the car. No, I wouldn't leave it on for 6 hours but I have turned it on, locked it and walked away.

Sorry about the avatar. LOL Just try not to look as I am not responsible for seizures.

I parked in a mall garage and came back thirty minutes later and was wondering why my lights were still on, annoyed that I would have to schedule a service visit to get it fixed. Until I realized the car was still running. The engine is very quiet.

I don't know, but I can definitely tell that my car is on. Even if it's very "quiet"

Heh heh -- good to have a MT -- I have to remember to get it in neutral if I want the car running when I leave. So its not something that I can do by mistake

I've killed the engine once or twice thinking that the engine is already off and letting off the clutch -- oops, jerk and stall (thank god for the parking brake !!)
The engine does idle quiet
