MPG Gauge

I wonder if I am the only one who thinks that MPG gauge on the dash is utterly worthless. If I'm coasting down a hill I'm getting 60 MPG. But when I've got it floored it says 1 MPG. Amazing technology.

I thought only General Motors referred to them as gages not gauges.

Don't use it.

I just keep it on temperature section.

I keep mine on avg mpg and avg speed. I reset it each time I fill up, helps keep the lead out of my right foot.

In that case, same with the one on the Fuel Economy information on the center screen.

I don't think it's useless though.

Mine is an outside thermometer only. that's the only setting I find at all useful.

Are you always coasting down a hill or nailing it to the floor?

It is accurate. If you were to keep it floored, you would likely see abysmal mileage, likewise, coasting with the car in gear would likely get you a couple hundred mpg, if only there hills that big

Seems pretty accurate to me. I am not sure what else you would expect.

^+1 -- its reporting instantaneous mpg (not average mpg) -- so it is supposed to vary wildly depending on what you are doing.

Actually I use this feature when I am just casually driving around. Maybe that's why I average 22-23MPG.

after experimenting with all the different options, i now use the outside temp. i find the bar graph and the avg mpg chart made me too conscious of fuel economy, which is contrary to why i brought the car.

I like to play this game with the mpg gauge. How long can I keep the bar at less than 5 mpg.

I average 24-25 here. Lot's of highway, and coast on big hills. It's a challenge to keep it there.
