Rims for an AWD model

Hello all, l have a question inregards to rim sizes for a 07 G35X model. Is it safe to install staggered rims on a X model. My mechanic advise me not to do it, since it will affect the traction of the AWD. but l am not too sure. If anyone has any insight into this, please help out. Many thanks in advance.

I would not recommend staggering your wheels on an X. You can achieve the same staggered look with certain wheels. I have an 07 x and contacted DPE wheels about this same issue. They can make a set of wheels for you that are all the same size but give the staggered look by having a larger lip in the rear. I dont remember how they do it exactly, but I know it can be done. It has something to do with trimming the plate in the back of the wheel hub on the rear wheels to get the staggered look without actually being staggered. I suggest calling DPE (if you want to spend that kind of money to achieve the look without messing with the traction) and asking them how this can be done. Other custom wheel companies should be able to do the same like, HRE. Good luck!

Your mechanic is right, run the same size all around.

contact the guys at hre!! but what they do is run different offsets so the lip in the rear can be larger. So they appear to staggered, I believe.

Thanks all for their valuable input. It is sooo much easier to get rims if it is staggered...

I thought it was easier when you get the same size all around.

Well if you look at the market place forum, you see all those tempting volks, nismo,etc... but all the stock that they have is a staggered setup. it just cost so much more $$$ to order a setup for the X, since rarely people keep the volks/nismo rims in 18x9.5"

I hear you on that but 9.5" is pretty wide on the front.

Looks like you have some nice mods on the car already, did I miss the pics or have you posted any yet . OOPs I found your pics, very nice. Check your PMs

Sorry l meant 18x8.5". I really want to upgrade my rims to either a set of nismo, or volks. It is just that special orders for my size cost so much more than what is on the floor.
