Basically the 7500 / 15000 / 22500 services are glorified oil changes...

They do those basic "inspections" when you bring your car in for an oil change...

Some dealers standardly change the intake air filter at 15K... We usually change it when it is noticeably clogged with oil / debris...

The incabin micro filter is done standardly at 15K / 1Year with customer authorization. Changing this filter alone is going to be a half hour of labor at a dealership.

In short, for the minor services (that do not include transmission fluid change / coolant drain & fill)...

My dealer in Atlanta wants 460 for the 15K. The competing offers vary from 500 to 410. My dealer agreed to match the 410, but then I wouldn't be able to use the 10% Infiniti coupon if he does the match. So really, he is not matching it because I would have gotten the same price.

The Nissan dealer near my office said they would do it for 225. Should I just go with the Nissan dealer? what about the microfilter? Are inifiniti and nissan the same type? I do not know if my dealer includes the air filter, but if they do, it does not justify paying 300 bucks more.

My regular dealer, who I have had a great relationship with up until now, wants $450 for the 15k mile service...

What infuriates me even more is a month ago my wife puts a big 2 foot crease in her door, dented, through the paint, the whole nine yards. Dealer (different one) charged only $350 for the dent repair and repaint and it looks to be brand new. Even that dealer wants $390 for the 15k mile service.

Well my thoughts right now are this. I'll actually hit 17,000 miles in a week or two. I've been getting all the services with synthetic so I'm not worried about my oil being over the mark and having to go 6,000 miles or so. Big deal. My thought is to just get the oil changed now at 17,500 or so and then do the inspections and whatnot with the 22.5k service - which looks like another big one.

I just don't see the need to do all those inspections now at 17k and then pay again for an absurdly overpriced inspection-laden service in 5k miles. Does this seem reasonable?

- not just inspect -- they managed to lubricate a non existent shaft
Makes you wonder what shaft got the lubrication

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I was the original poster, I'd go back in and demand an explanation and/or money back. Dealers get away with murder. I seriously think that the techs see a brand new car come in and probably say, "Screw this, I don't need to inspect tranny oil, it's only got 15k miles." Pure profit....

I just talked to my dealer about the 15k service, they said it was a $350 flat rate. It included all the inspections listed, oil, air & in cabin filter change.

What threw me off though was the service adviser was saying something about resetting the ECU and the timing or something similar to that. He said it has a tendency to deviate from the factory after a while and most people see a fuel economy improvement after getting it done. I have noticed my fuel economy in the city has dropped from 18mpg last summer to 15mpg this winter, and I'm not driving it any differently. Think it's worth it? If not, what could be causing my MPG to drop like that?

Depends on how cold your climate is

I don't know how cold your climate is, Gettin'. But it's not atypical to have a 3 mpg difference between summer and winter climates. Where I live--in the DC metro area--I've typically gotten at least 2 to 3 mpg less in winter driving than in summer driving. This is especially true because my daily commute is only about 9 miles one way. So, in winter, my engine has much less efficiency because it takes a few miles of the commute to warm up to efficient operating temperature.

Infiniti of Chantilly eh?

I almost went with them, but I went with Coleman Infiniti instead since they had the cheapest price. At first I was bummed about not having free scheduled maintenance but Infiniti offers a service plan where (for me anyway) I paid $1580 to get free scheduled maintenance for 60 months/75,000 miles. Thats good because if I get all my scheduled maintenance done at Coleman, my powertrain is under warranty for life.
