+ equates to upshift in sport mode, and - equates to downshift in sport mode...

The paddle shifters will upshift and downshift even when left in "D"rive. The difference is, when in D, it will hold the gear for a few seconds, then shift either up or down on its own. In "DS" mode, it will hold the gear pretty much the whole time unless you slow to a near stop in which case it will shift into 1st on its own.

Isn't that on the manual?

Edit: You've had the car since March (I'm assuming since you joined here on March), and you're telling us you've never used manual mode?!?!?!?!? OMG, you have been missing out so much. Now, get out there and enjoy the car even more!!

Okay, at this point it occurs to me that it would take a very...special person to miss understanding + and - on a gear shift. Pretty sure NewGuy is simply looking for entertainment.

Honestly... this could be a very sincere and honest question.
Maybe he's never even driven the car.

I mean, it is possible that he's still in the garage trying to figure out where the ignition key goes.
