Dyno Friday Need Help

Car: 2007 G35x (5 A/T)
Question: What gear should I dyno in. I know you want a 1:1 ratio. I can't find out a chart to save me for this. Anyone know?

Also, should I turn off VDC, on the dyno? Sounds dumb I know but I just want the most accurate numbers I can for a baseline run.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Some better educated members can correct any errors I make regarding this, but here we go.

1) The dyno pull to measure your car's hp and tq will be made in the the "1 to 1" gear. This is usually the second to last gear on most 5 and 6 speed transmissions. An easy way to figure this out is to watch your tach and speedo. When they are at the same angle on your gauge cluster, theoretically the ratio is 1 to 1. For the 6MT, 5th is 1 to 1 and I would asume that 4th is the 1 to 1 on the 5AT.

2) The guys running the dyno will know what they are doing and should be able to answer any of your questions.

3) I'm not sure it would make a difference with the VDC on or off. From an electronics perspective, I think it would be best to have it off.

Hope this helps...

Can't dyno a car without the VDC off... it notices the front tires are still while the rears are just spinning.

you told the dyno operators you have a AWD car correct?

I can't wait to see what the AWD VQ35HR puts down!

Here's this chart:

dyno in 4th

As per the graph posted above, 5th gear is 1:1. I don't know if this hits the speed limiter or not though.

I wasn't aware of the gearing at the time and dyno'd my car in 4th and while my numbers may have been higher in 5th, I don't think it would have made too huge of a difference.

Yeah make sure you tell them before you go there it is awd. They have to switch the dyno to AWD.

+1 !!

i doubt u can just switch to AWD dyno... u'll have to goto a dyno shop that has 2 rollers. I dont think vdc would matter since u're tied down starting from a rolling position but its generally a good idea to turn it off in case... and remember to run it in DS mode till red line. Hopefully your car is properly broken in. Do all 3 runs to see how much heat soak affects your G. It might be cool to test the power loss for the 4WD shift to RWD before 17mph(??) vesus RWD all the way. if they have a previous dyno on a G35s, have them print u out another sheet overlap with your data to compare.

thanks for doing this!

If you have an awd dyno you can switch just for rwd,fwd or awd. But they are usually dyno awd cars at the same time so they don't have to switch.

Okies. Somewhat I expected.

232.89 AWHP
206.69 TQ

This was 3rd gear. It would not complete a run in 4th gear as the car was going 130mph and would get ultra rich and all types of junk. Pretty happy with it to be honest, AWD + AUTO = Drivetrain Loss no way around it...

Numbers are corrected! Also I will posta graph when I get back to work monday.DOMO
