08 voice recognition

08 voice recognition
Ifiniti really messed up on the new voice commands for the 08's
they cut just about all of them except for the navi commands
radio just: am fm sat
climate just: on or off
no tune or temp....... no tracks, stations, or presets
it's only a software change they were changing them at the port to the new commands
also there is a training mode that takes forever to listen to the prompt
even in the alternate set up it still takes a long time to enter a destination on the gps because every time you enter something it repeats it (normal)
and then says " please say the city name or press the back button to correct state
if you want to adjust the temp on the climate control you press the button on the steering wheel wait for the prompt to say do you want navigation, audio, climate control or help, beep
then you need to take your hand off the wheel and press that little hot or cold button up or down then reach over and set the temp for the passenger side unless you don't need the dual temp.
on the navi no more destination phone #
does anyone know if it can be re programed to the old commands??
the early 08s had the better software

As for the 'waiting for a voice command' when you hit the wheel button, I recall the `07 being different and you would merely mute that featuring... thus turning it into a 'beep'.
For what it's worth, in a year of ownership, I have only used the voicemail commands to power the climate control and radio ONCE to show off the system. Kinda pointless in my opinion. The voice commands for navigation are excellent and used on a near daily basis. I can pull out the treo, google a restaurant or (insert any location here), and voice input the address while underway.

This change is the one thing I hate about the '08 (otherwise love the car!). Absolutely ridiculous that they would dumb down the system allegedly because some marketing surveys indicated people were having problems with the number of commands. Just make the expanded commands available in an alternate mode if the software already exists. The current "alternate mode" on the '08 adds very little over the base mode, and waiting for the voice prompts to end drives me nuts (even more so when I see those damn Ford Focus/Edge commercials showing off the Microsoft Sync interface!) WTF, we're paying near $40K for this car, shouldn't the technology progress instead of regress?
There have been other threads on this and one of the dealer reps on here has indicated that a reflash to the old system eventually may be made available (but not anytime soon). My advice (and others may agree) is to call Infiniti consumer affairs and lodge a complaint. The more people bitch, the more likely they come up with a fix.

I agree. Call Infiniti and lodge a complaint. I have done this and have a log #.
Earlier in the day Infiniti connected me with a Zenrin tech..and he said this choice is a hardware based option that is in infiniti's hands..and they can change it. I asked whether this means the commands are technically still there...and he said yes.
