1st real problem with the car

this morning i crank up the car let it warm up...basically the same routine every morning. of course when i get toward the city, all hell breaks lose like it always does. construction everywhere, 3 or 4 cops blocking roads pulling people over, more construction. really really really crappy roads in the city. after one traffic light i hear this noise and i thought it was the car next to me. minutes later, i realize it is my car making this weird grinding noise. almost like metal grinding on other metal. pull over, look to see what it is...can't see anything. jump back in, the noise is made only when in motion.

Very hard to diagnose anything with such little information. It could be anything...Off to the dealer my friend..

One suggestion though, dont drive the car . Call Infiniti Roadside assistance, and have them pick up and tow the vehicle to the closest corresponding dealership. More harm can be done if the car is continued to be driven. They should be able to get you in a loaner.

With the construction, you may have picked up a rock that is stuck between the brake rotor and the shield or something like that. I have had it happen before.

Same thing happened to me.... but it was one of the bolt from my new exhaust pipes. It was loose a bit.

As for your case... I not too sure, but maybe something is loose? Do you know where the noise is coming from?

If it's like a tapping noise... I believe there is a TSB for this.

either what others have said or one of your brake pads disintegrated. definately sounds like grinding on the rotor

Sounds like you ran over something and are dragging it...

did you have the dealer fix this problem?

also, if i had my car towed with infiniti roadside assistance, how much would that cost?

chilibowl, how exactly does the towing work? do i have to wait for the guy, then ride in the tow truck to the dealership? or do they bring out a loaner when they're towing the car? thanks

In standard procedure, just the truck comes to pick up your car. My best advice, is to call your local dealership, explain to them the issue, and work something out with them. If they have loaners available, im sure it wouldnt be an issue to tow to you a loaner, you signing for it, and them picking up your vehicle. Give em a call homie.

On page 92 of my manual:
The disc brake pads have audible wear warnings. When a brake pad requires replacement, it will make a high pitched scraping sound when the vehicle is in motion whether or not the brake pedal is depressed.

Could that be what you're hearing?

okay so around 3 i called roadside assistance, towed my car and i hitched a ride over to the dealership. got a journey loaner, and they called a few hrs later telling me it was a stick lodged in the under carriage making a lot of noise. so it was no big deal ha.
