'07 Brakes G35 vs. G35Sport (post pics pls)

Hey,

So i'm a couple of days away from buying a G35S 6MT...i think. I did a quick inspection on the wheels and noticed that the brakes do not look that big. First off, i want to make sure i'm not getting blindsided. Are the Sport brakes easily recognizable by the calipers? I wasn't planning on taking a ruler to the rotors and seeing if they have the extra .7" or whatever it is.

Secondly, I would like to see a side by side comparison. I'm hoping this will also be useful for others who are debating between sport and non-sport. So please if you've got a good pic of your front or rear '07 brakes, post em up.

Thanks G's

let me tell you. I have an X, non sport. basic brake package, no upgrades at all. This thing stops like it has a bungee cord strapped to the back of it---ending your forward progress seemingly right where you need it to. My brakes have saved me a$$ 4 or 5 times allready and i have only had my G for 4 months. Like the time a tractor trailer came over into my lane on a hair pin turn at 75. I was at 40, with him whizzing right over the front corner of my car in what felt like a half a second. Or like today. Doing well into the triple digits on an unnamed road. Coming up over the crest of a hill, i see everyone on the road on their brakes. INSTANTLY, i was at 65, passing an unmarked State trooper. No ticket = me happy about the brakes on the G. Unless you plan on road coursing your G every weekend, dont let the brakes be the selling point for you to get the S. In my book, that decision was made for me by the too stiff side bolsters (my opinion of course) in the S. Trust me, the performance, both going up in speed, and coming down from it, is great, S or not.

just my $0.02

Well, the Sport brakes may not look larger, only because the wheel size is 18" compared to 17" on the Journey, so it's a bit deceiving, but they definitely are a bigger setup, larger rotors, larger calipers.

bigger brakes don't necessarily make you brake shorter, they have more mass to distribute heat, and less prone to brake fading.... Tires make a big difference in braking

The Sport brakes are bigger, but both of them are floating calipers, so they don't look as different as say, the coupe sport brakes that are fixed calipers.

The sport brakes are bigger, I post a similar thread earlier. They are both 13.0" front and back in diameter, the rear brakes might look smaller cuz the rotor surface area is smaller due to the differential. Non sport is 12.6 frontand 12.1 rear.

If you like super stiff ride like a fixed up racer feel then get the Sport 6MT. If not then get regular 5AT Journey.

?? I don't agree that the Sport ride is super-stiff, mine is just fine

^ +1. The ride of the Sport is by no means super stiff.

+3 ^^ I tested a Journey with sport wheels and a Sport and can barely tell the difference. The difference in diameter is so small between the two rotors it is hard to tell the difference looking at it.
