Garnet Ember, Clear Bra & Related Questions

I've been lurking on the forum, but I've finally decided to get a new G35 in Garnet Ember. Based on my reading, there seems to be a consensus that Infiniti paint is not terrific -- although that same complaint is repeated for practically every manufacturer.

First question, is the Garnet Ember particularly prone to problems such as chipping? I saw this might have been the case for pre-2007 G35s, but I haven't seen anything to suggest it is still a problem.

Second question, I'm considering getting a clear bra for the car. Should I get a complete kit (hood, fenders, mirrors, door edges, headlights, fog lights and complete front bumper) or just hood, fenders & mirrors? Likewise, should I get the whole hood or only part of it?

Third, I've seen several people recommend this installer, PROFORM PROTECTIVE FILMS, which is located in MD about an hour from me. Could anybody who has used this installer recently chime in on this facility's work?

Thanks. Sorry for the long post.

i don't see how garnet ember is more prone to chips than the other paint...is there any reasoning you have for this question? i think it would have more to do with your driving style and how far you stay away from bigger vehicles on the highway...and what roads you drive on rather than the color of the paint...

I'll freely admit that I have nothing to go on with respect to why garnet ember would be more prone to chips. My question only came about because of some complaining on this point that I saw raised on other forums, which, needless to say, are always suspect. Thus, I thought I would come to the experts!!

The color wont make a difference. I had a 05 in black and after 3 years on Chicago streets the front bumper felt like sand paper.

Get the 3M clear guard, but not from the dealer. I just had mine put on today for $450 which included front bumper, some of the 1/4 panels, mirrors and 17" of the hood.

Cant beat the price.

Lexus has the same problem. My boss's car has a crap load of chips on the bumper and hood.

Thanks. I wasn't planning on using the dealer. I was a little concerned that I have to drive an hour to the place I was thinking of using, but what are you going to do!
