Do the '07's get better mileage?

OK, I know you don't buy a G35 for great mileage but, at $4/gallon, I'm curious if the new G's do better than the older models. I had an '05 which was pretty lousy on gas - averaged around 17mpg...maybe 20 on the hwy.

My current BMW 530i gets 24-25 on the hwy, but it's out of warranty and needs to be replaced.

What's a reasonable mileage expectation on an '07 G? Any better than my old '05?

The G is very sensitive to your driving style when it comes to gas mileage. It is not a good car to get by any means if you are looking to get good gas mileage. I drive around 26 miles each way to work, and 85% of it is on the highway. I fill up every 7 days or so, and I run it till the dash doesnt even read mileage left to empty anymore (it still has 2 gallons left at this point though). I always set the cruise on the highway, and when I cruise at 75mph, I get 22mpg average over the whole tank, and get around 370-400 miles on a tank of gas - usually fill up with 17-18 gallons.

Now, I just started to experiment, and have been setting the cruise at 65-67 mph, and have been getting 24.4 mpg so far and I have driven around 120 miles on this tank. I have not had any full throttle passing situations or launching from rest either though - that really drops your mileage. Doing this a couple times on a tank of gas can lower your average by .5 mpg or so by my experience. Driving in the suburbs/city I accelerate moderately from a stop to my cruising speed of around 5-8mph above the speed limit, then set the cruise immediately. By doing all of this, and watching your tank average in the display, you can easily change your tank mpg by altering your driving behaivor by a couple mpg.

By the way, I do have the 07 G35X, so my awd car is heavier and sucks more gas than the rwd - but by accounts on this board, I still get better gas mileage than most do. Now, on the first couple tanks with this car, my average was down around 20-21 mpg, but that is because I was not watching the mpg display, and driving a little more briskly than I probably should have.

We live in a small town (pop. 50,000) so our city driving isn't just stop and go for hours at a time. We get about 20-21 city and do a lot of hwy driving and get between 25-27 at 80mph w/ occasional passes in the 100mph range.
I'd say expect to get 18city and 25 hwy as a good average from most of what I've read on this forum.
