2009 Models for Infiniti

Hey! I just got off the phone w/ my local dealership here in San Francisco and he is confident that Infiniti will bring the 7speed automatic transmission to all its out-going models. That really sucks cause I think that will really help w/ mileage. He wasn't sure if they will get the G37 Sedan but the 09 G35 Sedan will be mated w/ a 7speed automatic. He was quite sure.

Anyone have any ideas on the gas mileage the G35 Sedan will get w/ a 7speed auto and VVEL?

G37 Coupe AWD maybe too?

Last thing, Does anyone feel that the X models got the Gs are a little on the heavy side?

The US market 2009 G37 sedan has been all but officially confirmed via info leaks from the 2009 dealer ordering guides. Gas mileage info is not available yet.

I pray that we don't get the hideous "split 5 spoke 18" wheels" displayed at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show debut of the European 2009 G37 sedan:

Yeah that was that I was thinking. I really wish they had the 7speed autos for 2008 cars. Darn it... I really dislike my 5speed. I hate how the RPM sits so high during highway drives.

well...infiniti's don't use CVT transmissions from what i understand so that logic wouldn't necessarily be true. Also, I think the Altima's have the 2.5 liter four-cylinders correct? I think in Japan, the Nissan Skyline 250GT 2.5 liter is a six-cylinder...

I don't think the 7spd will make that much of a difference. You're right, our cars do idle high, but at the same time...other cars who idle at 2400rpm at 65mph has a redline at 6500rpm...we might be idling at 2800-3200rpm at 65-75mph but our redline is much higher...

I agree. I have no interest in narrow spoke wheels. To me they are just ugly for some reason.

I don't LOVE my 2005 G35x as much as I use to - but I think my wheels are pretty awesome actually.

Fuel economy is directly related to how high your rpms are while cruising.

It's actually almost simple math. The computer is keeping the same a/f ratio during cruise, so the higher the rpms, the more air and gas you're using, the worse your fuel economy.

Anybody have the details on gear ratios and final drive? That'll tell the whole story.

Not necessarily, right? If you're using less throttle because the lower gearing allows less HP to run at a certain speed, you could use less gas.

Actually its quite complicated. You have to factor in the load on the engine which is constantly changing even though the rpms may stay constant.

As long as you stay out of power enrichment mode (roughly 60% throttle at lower rpms) the computer keeps the a/f ratio constant. Load doesn't make too much of a difference.

If we were using old carborated cars (more load means more throttle means more gas) it's definitely true.

I actually read an article stating that modern cars are the most fuel efficient at full throttle at low rpms because the throttle body blades are open the most and the air flow more efficiently that way. In other words, load doesn't really matter. The lower the rpm, the less fuel you use (generally speaking, there's definitely a point where engine A doesn't make enough power to cruise at speed, becomes less efficient, etc.).
