touch up paint..

im a little frustrated with all of the little white scratches on my car, and i'd like to touch up some of them with some touch up paint. i have absolutely no experience with touch up paint though, and i've heard it can come out pretty bad, so i'm a little scared of just buying it and figuring it out on my own. plus, my small scratches are mostly white lines, so i think a touch up PEN, like this one http://www.grubbsperformance.com/servlet/Detail?no=3043 would be better. but also, that pen doesn't look like its OEM from nissan, plus my color (garnet ember) isn't available. also, this kit http://www.langka.com/complete-paint...-kit-p-30.html looks like a great tool, im thinking maybe i should buy this for the process. anyway, can anybody help me out with some techniques on the best ways of applying touch up paint, and if its a spray or a pen, and which is better, and just any experience anyone has had with touch up paint would be awesome

I think some pictures of the scratches would help you get some answers from the forum. It would help to see if it's the clearcoat or paint that is scratched. It sounds to me like it's the clearcoat, not the paint, that is damaged. If it's the clearcoat, a good detailer can get that out most of the time, with a polisher.
Have you waxed the car yourself? It could also be wax residue trapped inside some micro scratches. If so, it can also be polished back to 'good as new' and sometimes even a 'better than new' finish.
I would only paint as a last resort after looking into other solutions first.
You might want to ask this in the Care and Detailing section also.

I agree with rpm, those scratches can be buffed out...but there is a process to buffing those scratches out or you can make it worse. make sure after you wash the car to claybar it and get all the fine dirt and grit out. then buff it
