Open the hood and have someone listen when you start the car so you can tell where the noise is coming from.

If it's sporatic, it's going to be hard to get the dealership to "experience the problem."

it actually is sporatic

when i went to the dealership a few weeks ago, it was during the week like tuesday or wednesday, they told me the person who usually listens for engine noise is out of town!!! i was so pist. i dont know what to do..........my friends and I think it's coming from the pulley's somewhere, or something ON the pulley system. I think it's the A/C or a nut is loose. ill try to post a video with sound so you guys can listen........

Well, there's two ways to go about this.

1. Obsess about the noise, fight with the dealership

2. Figure that if something is really wrong, something will break in the next 50k miles you have left on your warranty, go about your day. If not, it's just another rattle/tick.

Unfortunately, I once I know something is wrong, I tend to go route 1.

Hey man.. Do you have air intakes on your car? I had a rattle under the hood and it was the nut from my stillen intake where it was taping the wheel well.

I am in AZ and had a similar issue.....I had a LOUD metal sounding ticking noise under my hood on two separate occasions. It is hot as anything in AZ right now!!!!...so I was concerned about my A/C compressor. I searched the forum and found a few threads that referenced belt tensioners etc. but nothing really fitting my issue. The second time I heard it I jumped out and attempted to record the sound on video with my cell as I knew the dealer "wouldn't be able to replicate the problem" and it quit as soon as I turned off the A/C????. I took it to the dealer the next day and as I expected they were unable to replicate the problem. They did however say that they inspected and cleaned my belt(s) and I haven't had the issue since???? Not sure if they were just giving me a load of crapola or not, but I haven't heard it since. If you haven't done so already...take it to the dealer.

I'm not saying it's OK to do so ... but that car can EASILY cruise at 100+ all day long. I doubt the speed caused it.

Good lord, how many rpm at 100mph if ~70 = 3k? Again, I'm sure the HR is fine staying at 5k all day too, but more curiousty than anything.

I can't imagine 100mph in final gear being anything over 4K :S
I drive around 90-100mph on highway most of the time anyway and i'm not having any issues.

I heard this noise for the first time today. When I turned my car off, I forgot to turn off the A/C....so when I went to start the car, the A/C came on as soon as I started it...and there was a weird noise that you guys are describing. It went away soon though...I don't think it's that big of a problem
