found this on the car and driver website yesterday. have not seen it posted anywhere yet. thought some people might be interested.

Infiniti - Car News
What's New for 2009.

July 2008

G37: Last year’s G35 sedan gains 24 horsepower and in the process becomes the G37 sedan, with a 330-hp, 3.7-liter V-6 stuffed underhood (this is the same engine that was introduced last year in the G37 coupe). Sedans with the Sport package get the G37 coupe’s 18-inch wheels and upgraded four-piston calipers with 14-inch rotors. For those forgoing the manual transmission, there’s a new seven-speed automatic that replaces last year’s five-speed slushbox. All-wheel drive is now available in the G37x coupe, and a droptop version of the G37 coupe should debut in February.

One part of this write-up that's new news, at least to me, is the hp numbers. There seemed to be conjecture and nothing official regarding the state of tune we'd get the 3.7L in for the U.S. destined sedans. The euros aren't getting 330.

325hp+ is what I've heard from numerous sources. The G37S will absolutely blow the doors off the G37 coupe. Hell, the current G35S already does that and the G37 coupe is barely faster than the 1st gen cars

I've seen both of them in action head to head against each other at local drag events many times. They are neck to neck in terms of acceleration (E.T & trap speed).

The G37S also feels more planted than the G35S when pushing it hard.

In the other hand, the 09 G37 Sedan should be significantly faster than the 09 G37 Coupe.

Makes me wonder if Infiniti will do anything about that. Having their sedan being faster than their "sports coupe" just doesn't do anything good for their target audience on the coupe. I doubt Infiniti will do anything about the weight. But who knows about further tuning.

.

I've been curious about the weight issue, what on hell's earth makes the coupe heavier than the sedan?

I'm not sure about the word significantly. Figure the 3.7L engine weights a couple of pounds more than the 3.5L. At least that's what I've heard. Even if there is no weight increase in the new sedan it will still only be 200 lbs lighter than the coupe. 200lbs is nice but not worth more than a 1/10th here or there when comparing cars that are pushing 2 tons.

AAMC, the primary driver for the extra weight in the coupe is additional structure in the doors to make up for their length and the lack of a b-pillar in side impact protection.

Thats simply because you drove the X. The regular RWD 07 Sedan is faster, its a rocket compared to my 06 6MT coupe.

Nissan admits the coupe is rather porky. They say the reason is because of the extensive reinforcement needed in and around those huge doors in order to meet the highest crash standards for intrusion protection. The huge brakes and 19" rims are also to blame. The VQ37HR itself is less than 10lbs heavier than the VQ35HR. The G37S will probably weigh about 30-40lbs more than the current verison assuming the buyer orders it with huge and heavy brake package.

Talking Can I turn in my leased G35xS

For a G37S? I like the 35, dont get me wrong, but a 7 speed and more power is just what the doctor ordered.

I'm going to have to drive that bad boy when the dealer gets one in .

Not entirely G related, but it looks like the M will be getting the "older" 3.5HR and will be pushing approximately 310hp through the 7spd.
