I've noticed that under certain conditions, the manual does shift instantly, and under other conditions there is a delay.
I haven't figured it out, as I don't drive the car very often, and when I do I leave it in DS, switching it to drive once I'm on the hiway.
My Wife and I just got back from our first road trip with the car (about 700 miles rt)
On the way home, I was on the highway coming down a winding grade of about 12 miles. Downshift/upshift were spot on, and the tranny would bang the gears like you'd expect. Under hard accel, it seems to delay on the upshift.
I've sometimes found myself forgetting to shift it, thinking I'm in DS, and when I jump on it, the car will take off and then depower as it bounces off the rev limiter (not fun).
One thing that I have to think about is, how much of a real delay our we seeing with the upshift, when comparing to shifting a manual tranny (process of pushing clutch/shift/popping clutch).

Here's the deal. If you typically drive normal and then decide to drive it hard all of a sudden, the harder shifts will be a little delayed, but if you continue to drive aggressively, the shifts will slowly tighten up as it learns. That's what I've seemed to notice. If your normally an aggressive driver, the shifts will firm up and stay somewhat firm.

It's never instantly...it'll be close but becuase of the torque converter, the shifts can never be instant.

shift speed is heavily dependant on the throttle position.

More gas = harder/faster shift.

Yes. Not much, but yes.

It's noticeable to most Sport drivers. For a quick reference, just search how many people complain about the "harshness" of the 2-3 shift while using the paddles. It almost "bangs" into gear.

Another search is for 1/4 mile times. All the fastest 1/4 mile times I've read for Sport guys are with the paddles. And most of them also tried Drive, Drive sport, and the shifter, along with the paddles to compare.

What I don't get is people without paddles have a same 1/4 mile times. So is it faster shifting or just feel faster?

BTW mine bangs into gear when shift 2-3. I actuall had some octane booster in 2 weeks ago and when I did a huge left turn few times it was chirping from 1-2. It is X and that is surprised me. My tires are 50-60% so that is not the case. Road were dry.

Of course I wanted to do it again last week with the camera and it did not do it. WTF
