Hey guys.. i just noticed a phat nail on my front driver side tire... took it to a tire shop and they said they can't repair it cause it's on the sidewall... I also called around to other shops and they said they would do it... I'm wondering if this is worth doing or just look for a used/new tire... i hate replacing one tire... Do you guys have any suggestions?? How dangerous is it to patch that up?? Anyone wanna sell a spare front tire? The Bridgestone Potenza 225/50r18?? re050a whatever...

HMM... anyone know what kinda spare tire is in the trunk??

Repair it. I recall seeing posts about the Bridgestones not lasting much more than 15K-25K miles. So, I bet you won't be on that set of tires too long....

only got about 9k miles on my car/tire....still got ways to go...

Doesn't look like it penetrated the sidewall, I think I'd try another shop first.

Most people selling tires do them in pairs.

They are afraid of the patch failing because that is where a lot of tire flex occurs and don't want to be liable.

The spare is a temporary-use donut.

Go get a plug kit, pull the nail out, insert plug and call it a day.

I would patch it and put it in the back... if same all the way around.

it's all oem.staggered... I think best way is if someone would sell me one front oem tire?! or i'm considering getting it patched....

If you don't want to patch, get a tire tread depth gauge, measure the tread depth of the good tire. If you can find a tire with the exact same tread depth, then go for it.

You're marginal at best if you want to buy just one new tire, given the soft compound those RE050's are, you might be over 1/4 through the tread. The best way to know for sure is to measure the remaining tread.

Yeah, just get it repaired, you'll be fine.

I've been told the same thing before. It's a safety issue since it's so close to the sidewall. Most places wouldn't touch mine. Don't ever plug a tire, patch it if you are keeping it.

I have had no issues with plugging tires. I don't think this hit the side wall. You also probably are getting close to the end of the life of the tires, so plug it, patch it and then swap out the sneakers a little earlier perhaps.

i just went to firestone tires to see if they can patch it..and they said they wouldn't do it... but they referred me to a small shop down the street..and they said I should get it plugged at least...
So I went... and one mexican guy there that couldn't speak english..but he looked at my tire..and grabbed his tools and just pulled out the nail and plugged it up. Nail looked pretty small... when he pulled it out.. i didn't hear any air coming out.. but he plugged something in there (further) and i heard some air... NOW...Lookin at my tire... looks like a surgery that went wrong..and got a infection or something... Does that look right??? or did he F my S up??

Also, you guys say..plug it AND PATCH IT...means do both??
