I thought it was interesting that acura tl awd will have a manual trans. and an article from edmunds .com that it's taking down Infiniti G35, audi and bmw.

I'm sorry and I know that looks are subjective, but this thing is awful looking. It is pretty close to being called an Acura Aztek.

After owning a lot of Hondas/Acuras, looks in this case are not subjective. That thing is ugly.

I saw one yesterday and surprisingly I said "That looks kind of cool. Is that the new Hyundai?". It was the TL and I remember thinking it actually looks a lot better in person.

Sweet Ride!

I gotta tell you that I drove one of the first 2009 TL's in Atlanta last week and it was sweet! Very fast, very quiet, very smooth. The electronics are incredible. Yes, the styling is "controversial" as you either love it or hate it. But I was very impressed with how the car drives and Acura has nailed it. My local Infiniti dealer is USELESS, but I hope to drive a G37 sedan as soon as they get them in. Then I have to make the big decision...TL or G37. Of course we have no gas in Atlanta right now, so once I buy my dream car, I won't be able to drive it!

Coming from the grocercy getter 2003 Type S, I still think the new one is bulky and ugly. What happened?

I personally wouldn't put too much emphasis or thought into this scenario as it will change. Infiniti will have 2 model years to improve the G37. BMW will certainly provide a counter punch and the Audi is due for a pretty extensive upgrade. While I do not like the looks of the new TL, I have hated the looks of many cars before and then grown to love them some years later. I have a strong feeling this may be the case again.

Coming from several 3G TL's and a 2 Type-S' I was hoping the new TL would be nice, but I don't care how nice the electronics and ride are, if the car is that ugly I ain't buying it. I went and saw one and while it looks better in person, it still has some odd and radical styling. The grill, look at the back doors, they open, but not at the back edge where you think they do, part of the window trim stay on the car when you open the door. The hugh butt rear, and on. It may gorw on me, but I doubt it. I am waiting on a G37.

Yeah but they also took away the bi-xenons! Can't even order it as an option!

Don't forget that the '09 TLs got downgraded to only low-beam HID xenons. According to the press release, Acura decided to use the halogen Daytime Running Lights to double as the high beam halogens. In the '07-'08 TLs, the headlamps were bi-xenons and the DRLs (the inner lamps closest to the grille) were halogen. For the '09s, you can't even order bi-xenons as an option. Talk about el-cheapo. I don't know how Acura can cross-market this against a 5 series with a straight face.

All automakers cut corners somewhere, and some hide them better than others. But when you include a very noticeable feature (like bi-xenons) and brag about the benefits of doing so, and then omit them outright the following year, it kind of makes you wonder what else they cut corners on. Like how BMW took away the all-LED setup (tails, brakes, turn signals) on the E46 coupe and only offered LED tails (light-bulb brakes and turn signals) on the E92. Or worse, when Honda gave its accord LED tails, brakes, and CHMSL for '06 and '07 and went back to a 100% light-bulb setup for the '08s. WTF! I mean at least keep the 3rd brake light as LED!

And BTW, as much as I dislike the Maxima's front end (it looks sort of warped), the '09 TL, as hideous as it is, makes the Maxima all-out gorgeous.

I am a life time Acura fan-boy. Every car that I have owned has been an Acura. And I was planning on my next car to be the new TL. And well after seeing it, and all of Acura's new line up, I am disgusted.. From looks to how much acura has cut corners... So I went to the OC Car show and looked at all of my options, in the same class, and I decided on the G37 Sedan. Very nice car!
