I think engines are likely to get smaller in the coming years with new MPG requirements and gas costs (the current drop in gas prices is temporary). If you want a big engine, buy it soon. It may not be available later..... or may have a stiff gas guzzler tax.

The answer to the "Why buy?" question is simple. Because you want it! Cars are purchased based on emotions not logic. If we bought them on logic, most people would be driving some pissant "transportation module" that got 40 miles to the gallon in the city and had about as much soul as a used oil drum! I heard a story about a lawyer whose wife absolutely insisted on getting a new Chevy Suburban because she needed it to drive her kid's soccer team to practice. When he looked into it, he found out that all the soccer moms took turns and his wife had to drive the pack four times a soccer season. So she was insisting on a 6000+ pound gas sucking vehicle that she would be driving with herself and one kid in it almost all the time. When he pointed this out to her, it made about as much difference as you'd expect....zilch! Oh; and she wanted the big engine too. So, the bottom line is if waiting for a nonexistant car makes you happy and makes you feel smart, then have at it, brother! If the instant gratification of getting a new G37 now rings your chimes, then do it! With cars, we're talking about feelings not logic!

I wonder why people in america buy these powerful cars - you can't bribe cops, you cant drive over speed limits......

My predictions.
2010 - Front and rear refresh. Maybe a few new interior details.
2011 - minor bump in horsepower
2012 - new body style.

That seems to be the Infiniti cycle. I think the G37 engine will be around at least another 5 years with small bumps in horses aong the way.

rinse lather and repeat.

So you think they will change the normal 4-5 year redesign? Usually on the 4th or 5th year is the total change. This body style came out in late 2006.

I'd say 5-7 years for a brand new body. With the intro of the new engine maybe it will be closer to 7. Just a guess.....

According to your sig, you have an 05x. If you are interested in a new car, there is a possibility that if the "new" stimilus package passes that you could write off the sales tax and get a $2,000 credit.

But then you might want to wait.....

BTW, there are indications that the beautiful V8 may be a thing of the past. Many manufacturers are stopping production or not updating them. I have had several V8 cars and for my money, nothing can beat the sound, acceleration and fun factor. But many manufacturers are doing wonders with 6's.

Just beware if you plan to use the stimulus plan for the $2000 credit, be sure your income is below $200,000 for single and $250,000 for married. Otw, the credit is becomes null and void.
