Scrolling through the Ipod on your G

Cut and paste from my previous post about how to organize your ipod to make it easier to locate songs. I have over 50 gigs of music, and can find any song in less then 30 seconds.
----There are two methods that work. You can either change the genre or composer of each track to the first letter of the band. Genre is the best as it keeps the artist>album>song hierarchy. Example: set Audioslave to A, Bush to B, etc. It's easy to do bulk edits in iTunes, so it doesn't take very long. This allows you to search by the letter of the band > select the band > select the album > select the song. As mentioned changing the composer also works if you really want to keep the original genre, but you lose the artist selection. All the albums that are by an artist that start with a particular letter are lumped together. In other words letter of the band > album > song. This is really only an issue when you have multiple albums for each band, as the album selection is more cluttered then it needs to be. Others have used playlists, but this dumps all the songs into one giant list that, in my opinion, is a mess to navigate.---

I figured I'd resurrect this old thread rather than start a new one.
Problem:
When I got my 09 G37S when I scrolled through the iPod (genre, artist, etc.) as I held the down arrow it would cycle through the 1st set of visible items (5 or 6 I think) and then hold 95% of the screen static while it cycled the XX/YYY (i.e. 15/298, 21/298, 27/298, etc.) until you let off the down arrow then it would update the 5-6 items on the primary display. It was a sort of quick-scrolling feature.
My radio had problems and wouldn't hold and new presets shortly after I got the car. The radio was replaced under warranty but I seem to have lost the "quick-scoll" feature. Now when I hold the down arrow to cycle through iPod lists it cycles through each option on the screen, pauses, updates the screen with the next 5-6 items, cycles individually through those, pauses,.....and so on. It's WAY slower.
Which way does it work on everybody else's cars? Was the "quick scroll" perhaps a minor new feature in the 09 design and was my 09 radio replaced with an 08 version maybe? I don't think this is a setting I can change but maybe I'm missing something. Anyone with similar experiences?

I have it and it works great. Installed it in the trunk and ran iPod wire to the rear armrest cubby.
BTW, mine is Bose Premium w/o Navi.
