CEL P0113 after K&N Intake Install

Installed my new K&N intake day before Christmas. I'm very meticulous and I took my time and followed the instruction to the T. I started the car to let it warm up and checked for leaks, no problems found. I took the car for it's initial test drive with the new intakes. All was good no problems. I started the car a couple of days later and my dash was lit up like a Christmas tree. The VDC Off, Slip, and Check Engine Soon were all lit up, I'm like wtf. I disconnected the battery to reset the ECU and the same thing after the second engine start. So I took the car down to Adv Auto Part and had them pull the code from the car. Turns out that both IAT (Intake Air Temperature) are reading high code P0113.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I have an appointment for service on the 12th. Is alright to drive the car with this code?

If the VDC off light is on, does this mean my Vehicle Damage Control is turned off or is this part of the P0113 error code?

If your VDC light is on, then your VDC is disabled until you get that code corrected.
If your dash it lit up like a xmas tree, I'd wouldn't drive it too much until you get it fixed.

Oh and I forgot to mention my TPMS light is lit up as well. The night it snowed down here in Houston my TPMS freaked out, I guess it got too cold. I aired my tires back up to 34 psi but the it just won't go off.

Info on the code.

I think the IAT sensor is built into the MAF sensor on our cars. You can try re-seating that connection.

I would think a problem with the MAF or IAT sensor would trigger "limp mode" in our cars. That would explain the lit up cluster. Did it drive normally when you took it to Advanced Auto parts?

Did you put it in the right way. Not familiar with the K&n intake but if you put the maf facing away from the flow you would have problems. Also di you touch your maf sensor? It is sensitive maybe a little cleaning would help.

If you taking your car to the dealer make sure you put the oem intake back.

I tried resetting the MAF connection on both intakes. That didn't solve the problem. I don't think you can put the MAF sensor in backwards, the screw holes don't line up.

The car seems to run just fine. Do you really think I should put the OEM intakes back in before the dealer looks at it?

Bad MAF or AIT sensor + OEM intakes = warranty work

Bad MAF or AIT sensor + K&N intakes = BOHICA

how did you try to reset it?

Did you touch the maf at installing the intake? If you did you might want to clean it.

Another thought. Is the K&N oiled? If yes maybe that is your problem. If it is over oiled you can get the maf sensor screwed up.

Good News

After reading the replies to my post, I decided to go back out, one more time, and check the MAF connections one more time. I disconnected the negative terminal of the battery and then I removed both of the connectors to the MAF's. After inspecting the passenger side connector I noticed that one of the pins was bent over inside the connector. I assume this was one of the temperature sensor's connection and a no-connect causes a high reading. (Error code P0113 IAT High Input) I removed the MAF and was able carefully bend the pin back up straight. I checked the driver's side connector and it was fine.

After fixing the connection and getting everything bolted back up. I was able to restart the car several times and the CEL never came back on. I did a test drive of the car and it drives great. No more CEL, VDC Off, and Slip lights.

Thanks for all the advice, everyone, it really helped.

Glad you got it fixed. Those things seem real easy to damage...there have been several threads on here and myg37 about that.

Edit: What was the deal with the TPMS light? Did that go away as well when you fixed the MAF sensor? Just curious since I've never heard of that light coming on when there was an issue like this.
