I did a little experiment tonight, and it seems that DS is a little faster than D. It keeps the revs up and shifts a helluva lot quicker than D.

Am i correct on this, or whats the purpose of DS mode, vs like my 05 where it just switches to manumatic?

 

You're correct.
It's a Drive Sport mode.

It holds gears longer, shifts quicker and is more aggressive in it's downshifts as well.

Mine will only jerk sometimes when it down shifts, but not that often.

Once you switch to manual it won't go back to DS. You have to move it back to D and back to DS again.

90% I use the M. Only use D if the traffic holds me back and no point to shift.

 

I "discovered" DS mode about 2 months after getting my car... Since, I would say I am in DS 95% of the time... pretty much anytime other than the Highway

 

The other thing I've noticed about DS vs. D is that DS will not shift into 5 gear. For example, when I'm driving in DS at about 70mph, my RPM's is about 3,300...then when I switch to D mode, my RPM's will drop down to about 3,000. So, to me it appears that DS holds at 4th gear, and D will hold at 5th gear as an overdrive gear???

 

DS is useless driving on the street. DS is the best option while racing on the track or doing an all out run in the canyons. It will hold the gear till redline when it senses u are taking turns over and over. After few corners, the DS mode will hold the gear till redline and will never shift in a turn.

As far as normal city/highway driving, DS will hold one gear lower than D would, that is why it is pointless.

 

I rarely use DS unless I'm going around a curvy road and am in the mood to engage in spirited driving.

Using it to jolly around town is a great way to get awful gas mileage.

 

I use the manual mode in our Saab all the time and I like it because it shifts like a manual keeping the converter clutch engaged. I don't like it much in the G35 and I am disappointed in how it works in the G35. In the manual mode the converter clutch stays disengaged and you get that slush box feeling when accelerating without the CC engaged. THe Saab feels much more connected and much more like a manual tranny gear. I have not found any other car that has a better manual mode than our Saab ...
