Flip-down cupholder part

My '07 G35x is missing the piece in the cupholder that flips down when you insert larger cups and which holds the smaller cups in place.

The dealer said I would have to replace the entire cupholder at a cost of $175!

Any idea where I can get this part or some alternatives?

What flip down? The small holder is in there, but it can be pulled out to reveal the "big" cup holder.

the flip down piece is removable. it's 1 plastic piece that holds both cups. $175 for that piece is insane. How did you lose it to begin with?

Weird that this thread should recently come up. My 07 Journey has the flip down piece, but one of the first things that I noticed about the 08 Journey loaner that I'm currently driving (besides the smoother throttle) is that it's missing the flip down piece. I didn't know that it could be removed. hahaha

Yes....I'm looking for the same piece.
The spring broke on mine and doesn't stay in place.

Anyone have any luck finding a cheap used one?

175 is for the whole cupholder assembly.

dont think you can get just the insert separately.

Same issue. I just bought an 07 used, and it's missing the insert as well.

Any solutions yet??

I hate the 07 cupholders.
Not deep enough and the spring was too flimsy and snapped.
I'm not crazy about the location right near the stick shift.

I'm actually thinking of other options like hanging one on the off the center console near the passenger's side left leg.
And if I have a passenger, I'll just remove it.

I wish the G had the retractable cupholders, completely out of the driver's way, just like the........dare I say it...........BMW......(oh the pain)

how about you go to the junkyard and look for the cup holder piece there?

Have you tried fixing it? Maybe to replace the spring isn't that hard. I have to see what kind of spring they using. Maybe the springs in the pens would be good with little modification.

BTW I have no problem with mine. I like it. I liked the one I had in the Saab too. Those were kind of cool but I am verry happy with what I've got right now in the G.

Actually, its not the spring.
The spring is fine.
Its a brittle plastic notch on both sides of the spring that supposed to catch.
Both notches have broken off so now the rounded, stenciled cutout piece does not stay in place.....it just folds up instead of catching.

So frustrated.....

Any ideas for the best aftermarket cup holder and placement on the G?

That sucks. Try the online wreck yards.

I've been to a few junkyards.
I have yet to see a G for scrap parts.

Oh well.....looks like a job for good old fashioned duct tape.
