Need help with the insurance claim

Recently, I was hit by a Budget rental truck when I parked my car in the parking lot. Both I and the other driver are with Gieco insurance. I also have a police report which says that the fault was totally with the other driver.

When I filed the claim with Gieco, after few days they gave a call and said that I should contact the Budget for my claim. Or they are suggesting going with my insurance and pay the $1000 collision deductable.

I tried to contact Budget but they are not even interested in helping me. Isn’t Gieco responsible for contacting the Budget and taking care of the claim. Why should I be paying with my insurance when its not my fault?

Thanks.

Yea Geico should be getting in contact with whoever it is that is going to payout. Be it the rental company or the driver. Your insurance company should be in charge of getting it fixed.

How bad is the damage? Sorry to hear that happened.

I asked my wife about this, she has worked at a local insurance agency for about 8 yrs. her first few years she was the claims rep., and has delt with Geico and progressive and a bunch of others....

So she mentioned that Geico will often ask (and they have right to do so) for you to contact Budget's insurance company, or the dirver insurance company, or go through your insurance and pay your deductible then your insurance company will go after recovery of coverage from budget's or the driver's insurance. This is how THe Geicos and Progressives keep thier premiums low. So people get cheaper insurance, but not the convenience of having someone go through the motions for you. But if the risk is low you will need thier assistance you are ahead of the game by paying less than other companies that will take care of these sort of things for you.

My suggestion is you contact budget and make the claim it is probably easy enough to do (I hope ), and if they have good customer service will help cover the claim readily, this seems like a pretty straight forward accident and you have a police report saying the same helps tremendously. You should be set, but may need to follow up more than if you had an agent doing this for you. It would be worse if it was an accident at an intersection and blame wasnt clear cut.

Good luck, and hope this works out for you

You should not have to do any "leg work" for the repairs, that's why you pay them to do what they do. If the other driver had GEICO at the time of the accident, this should be a "no brainer" for them (that's assuming he used his personal vehicle insurance to cover the rental vehicle). You could contact Budget to find out how the renter insured the vehicle at the time he rented it (just to expedite things).

The worst case is that you pay the deductible, but GEICO has to do the leg work to recover that for you, either through court or by garnishing payments from the other party. Again, you shouldn't have to do squat to get it fixed, that's why we pay them premiums every month.

One of you duties after an accident is to get the insurance info from the responsible party (driver). Then try with all your might to get a police officer to come out to help you document it was not your fault. Then simply contact the insurance company at fault and file a claim. The fact you and he have the same carrier has nothing to do with anything.
