Mod or another car??
Mod or another car??
Here's my dilemma, I'm bored with my G. Been looking and negotiating to buy a Honda S2000. Always wanted that car for some reason. Found several that fit in my price range of $15,000. Here's my dilemma, do I spend $15,000 on another car (more maintenance, insurance, ect..) or do I give some love to my 07 G journey? My G is stock with the exception of tinted windows and a midnight grill. I was thinking some rims, intake, exhaust, and pocket save the rest of the money. What do you guys think?
With that amount of money, I suggest you drive to GTM and talk to them. You probably can have a 450+whp G.
If you want to buy another car, in my opinion, 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart is the best choice. It is a turbo car and it has the same engine as Lancer Evo X. It produces less hp just because of smaller turbo and the limit of the ECU. With couple thousands dollars, I strongly believe you can transform it into a 400hp car. So totally you only have to spend $28k for a brand new 400hp car ;-)

Unless you have money beyond the $15,000 to mod the S2000, I would just stick with modding the G or save more funds. You will just end up being bored with the S2000 and wishing that you had money to mod it after you purchase. Like another poster said, you can make the G pretty bad a$$ with $10-$15k.
Agree with the previous poster about the 370Z (you're gonna need more than $15,000), I personally don't think the S2000 is all that great.

i've always loved the S2000, and are you driving a stick G or an Auto? I mean if you have the funds it's nice to have a nice comfortable sedan and then a real sports car for the weekends.
My G is an auto. If I mod out my G, I wouldn't spend 15k, more like 6-8K and save the rest. On a side note, I'm a bit surprise how affordable the S2000 have become and how many are available with low miles and stock engines.

it really depends on what you want man...an s2000 is the greatest car from the factory to track. it handles like none other especially if you're talented behind the stick/clutch...my friend has a black s2000 and he can push that car further to its limits than i can on my G for sure...but with me, i like having a fast 4-dr that is practical and beautiful looking...the s2000 is a track car for the public, it's all on you homie...i don't think there is a better weight/hp ratio car than a s2000 for that kind of money...and i'm sure you could find a s2k for cheaper than 15k, they've been around since 2000!
Most bolt-ons for our cars do not drastically change the overall nature of the car. If you aren't feeling it, it could be you never will. I for one especially love the sport seats on my G35S...the journey, esp. auto, is a totally different animal and I would never have purchased the car in that trim. I loved my car when new and still love it will just basic mods.
The S2000 is a great car. Not very practical but hey, you only live once. Too bad you probably don't have room for a second car--S2000 would be an awesome addition.

^ +1.
You really have to decide what's important to you. If you have family/practicality reasons then significantly moding the G isn't much of option. And don't expect to mod the G to S2000 fun levels...at the end of the day the G is much bigger and heavier than the S2000. Having both cars on the other hand can get very expensive. Also consider what hassles you'd rather deals with -- having 2 cars (parking, insurance, maintenance) or a heavily modded car (maintenance, voided warantee, resale value).
If you're bored with the G why not trade it in for an Evo or an STI? You'd sacrifice luxury but you get gobs of performance and practicality. Or use the $15k and go for the S3 or M3.

I really appreciate all the insights and advice. I can't trade in the G since I need a sedan. I have a SUV as well that my wife uses to haul the kids around. The S2000 would be a third car for me and me only. I think my biggest regret was buying the G in journey trim. I probably be happier if I had bought the sport with the paddle shifter.
You can almost make your Journey equivalent to a Sports or even better if you are willing to spend some extra $$. You can buy the paddle shifter, sports bumper, akibono bbk, get some suspension upgrades and you got yourself a Journey that could even out perform a Sports with just $3000 - 3500 of investment.
