Clear Bra people

I am looking into getting a clear bra, so I went by the shop that did my tint job and he said that he doesn't touch them. No longevity. After a couple of years they start having issues like warping, yellowing, flaking, etc...

I want to hear from the people that have (or install) clear bras and get your opinion. How long have you had your clear bra and what is your experience been? What clear bra material are you using (i.e. who made the film)?

Thumbs up

Mine has been on since new, only 15,000 miles, it doesn't have to go out every day I like it alot,, For the bugs, sand, and road spray, i don't think it can be beat... plus, mine is NOT discoloring, or peeling, or nothing! and when i do park it out side, i try and aim the front of the car away from the sun... 3M is the manufactuer of mine. I have it on the headlights, mirrors, hood, and bumper......

The older technology film may have done that, but the newer stuff shouldn't. Besides, it's warrantied for 5 years or more.

I have had mine on my car since Dec 07 and it still looks good as new. No peeling, discoloring, chipping...cant say that about my grill

I do however wax the bra once a month and wipe the clear bra down with plexus once every couple of days to get the bugs off. Im not sure on the company but mine has lifetime warrenty against peeling and discoloring so i am not too worried. I have it on my hood, bumper, headlights, and side view mirrors.

I think I might have one of the first installs:

It still looks as the day it was installed. IMO, it has done a wonderful job of protecting the front end from road debris. Of course, being a film, it won't help with really big projectiles.

I just care for it the same way as if the clear bra wasn't there using Zaino products.

I hate em. I detailed a buddy's car with a clear bra and it sucks because I did paint correction on the entire car and it looked flawless. Bright, popping paint with not a swirl on it...then you look at the nose. Swirl city. Cannot polish it and rather than deal with a rock chip here and there, you end up with an entire nose that looks like crap.

I'd rather just do touchup paint every now and again. If you know how to wetsand and polish, you can make it look nearly flawless.

Installed 12/07 - 30K miles no problems except a ding from a nice sized highway rock that would have gouged the paint anyway.

As to the detailer regarding the swirls, I would rather have swirls than the mess that was my other car sans clear bra after two+ years! Chips, sand pitting, and scratches galore are what the front of my 02 TL-S looked like.

Heres the tip, POLISH before the clear bra goes on and it looks good for eternity!

I swear by it, I drive a 2003 Coupe with the whole front end protected and when I show up at meets and compare my front end against other cars without it, pretty much night and day.

Why wetsand and polish when you can keep your paint looking new? Clear bras can be polished... and if they are properly maintained it will look as good as the finish. Go with a good quality film and you cant go wrong. Your limited experience sounds like it wasnt a good quality film... I have never seen swirl marks in any of the films I install.

I've had mine on for 2 years now and you still don't know it's there unless you go looking for it.
Every car from here on will definitely have one.

Any excuse to post a few pics...

Quick question about clear bra's, can they be taken of several years down the line without taking the pant off as well?

Yup. Hit it with a heat gun and they peel right off.

My 03 sedan has a clear bra and it still looks fine. I peeled the covers from mirrors on a hot day and it left no residue...paint was also pristine.
