security question for the g

hey guys, my 18 year old brother just practically got his life stolen, his truck. just bought 24 inch rims, waited four months for them and had them on for about three days.

and seeing how sh*tty it really is when it happens to someone you know kinda has me freaked out, and everyone where i live is jockin' my car and i couldnt imagine having this thing stolen.

for you guys that know your stuff i was wondering if you could tell me the very best anti-theft device i could invest in, whether it may be an alarm system or some type of cut-off device or whatever it may be.

because im getting one asamfp!

thanks!

well depending if you have the premium pkg you already have an alarm and a cut-off system. if you want to try it leave the windows open lock the car and wait 1-2mins and try to open the door from the inside and the alarm should go off.

but for real security lojack is the best they put a gps tracker in your car so they can find it if its stolen.

Lo Jack. Pricey but anything else is junk if they really want to steal your car. Flatbed towtruck and its gone in minutes.

if they want to take the car, they are going to get it, if they can't actually take the whole car, they will ether strip it on the spot or damage it while trying.

just insure every thing, take pictures and document your after market parts with sales slips.
call ur insurance rep and buy insurance for what ever you have.

if you want to do the cheapo lojack,

buy an old gps enabled cellphone. hard wire it to the battery, and write down the esn # on it.

if i gets stolen the cell company can track the esn# and locate it.

not that i know of, but i don't see why it won't, unless the cellphone company didn't want to give up the info.

but i know the insurance company would get involved and bring in the big guns if they had 30k on the line if they could recover the car.

In addition to the cell phone companies giving up the info, I'm curious to know if cell phones can be triangulated that accurately.

i don't think tower triangulation is accurate enough as well, it can get you to 1-3 city blocks

My buddy had an alarm put in his 08 G35xS that has GPS.
He can log into a website at anytime and see exactly where his G is located.

I want the system to page me the second it's disturbed in any way (if the fob is not within the car's range) and I would love to have a kill switch, although I believe those are not legal for public use.

No such thing as the best... if a thief really wants your car, they will take it....car, rims, system, etc.

best thing to do is NOT attract any attention. Don't bump music, don't drive fast or anything, stay low key. Don't park in an area where your car is the only one there, or it's dark, etc.

However, I do recall seeing something on TV, the news I think, which is similar to what people above have mentioned. You buy a certain device and put it anywhere in the car. Long as that part doesn't get stripped, you're good, and you can track it online. That doesn't help prevent your vehicle being stolen, but it helps recovering it.

Don't forget good insurance. If you have rims, might be a good idea to insure them, or even a system.

You can do whatever you want but I even heard stories of tow trucks jacking the cars.
